Snek in the Pool

It's dark, so I don't know for sure, but 99.9% likely a baby black rat snake. I had to turn the pool lights on to find it. Finally found it wrapped on T.O.M.'s cord. I scooped him with a net and then over the fence he went.

Thin as a pencil and about 1 foot long. He just wanted an exit...and he got one. I have not told Mrs. Beard yet. It may prevent her from getting in the pool this year.

They have the world's most powerful venom, they can move at lightning speed, they can see in the dark and they will chase you until they get you.

We have a neighborhood rat snake named Sam. We have no neighborhood mice/rats... which I hear is not a coincidence. Sam has been known to leave his old skin behind here. whoa.

PS... I've only found pencil-sized snakes in the pool. But the frogs are the biggest I've ever seen... and they are good swimmers.

I'm worried our autocover will create a nice warm spot that attracts snakes or maybe a pile. I'm putting my husband in charge of this. We live close to a river. We get all kinds of wildlife. The snakes scare me the most. I'll be mowing around the garden beds then I scream bloody murder/jump/dance... I'm pretty sure it's hilarious to see...

I've only had 2 frogs in the pool and they were tough to catch. Toads, tons. But they just float. Easy to scoop out!

I caught a little frog yesterday, in the skimmer. He was still alive. I fished him out, but he jumped behind the grotto.

Hours later I found him in another skimmer. I fished him out and brought him to another place further away and flipped him out of the net. He didn't move, he just layed on his back, I just hoped he was catching his breath.

Someone put that there to trick you.

It seems unlikely that the skin would end up like that.

The front part is being held up by a thin twig, which can hold a skin, but it would not hold a snake.

Knowing he’s around makes me not want to be messing in the garden. I was pulling weeds and heard the bushes move and nearly did a triple backflip trying to get out of my way so I could run. Turned out it was a rabbit. Haha!

I had to dig up the shrubs in the front due to the stupid freeze. Never seen a snake in the 10 years we have lived in the house, but found this dude in our garage right afterwards. I'm guessing I disturbed him in my digging/chopping. I cant tell what he is, but I'm going with a baby copperhead about 10" long. I used the broom to put him in the pool net and relocated him to the woods a few houses down.

Now I'm off to change into the swimsuit for the first swim of the season... I'm going to take a peek in the skimmers to make sure he didnt have any siblings first

If I remember correctly, baby copperheads have yellow tails. I'm going to guess...rat snake...
