Need advice!

We just had a new pool installed late last year. The last few days is the first time using it. My hubby has been getting extremely dry skin after using the pool. This doesn’t happen when we are on the boat swimming in a river, the Gulf of Mexico, or our hot tub. Not sure what’s going on.?? I’m absolutely fine.

The pool has a tab feeder with trichlor. Was planning on using that until CYA’s got to a good level and switching to liquid. Or hot tub I use Dichlor to start then use TFP method. That was my plan with the pool.

The only thing I can think is he is having a reaction to trichlor?

Just tested the water:
FC 1.5
CC 0.0
TA 70
PH 7.6
CH 200
CYA approx 15. Can’t tell to low.
Water temp 72

Would a salt system be better on his skin? And if so, which one?? We have Jandy automation with aqua link so I’m leaning towards that. This would be a self install, is that possible if your reasonably handy??

Get some CYA in the pool water. Add 20 ppm worth of stabilizer using the sock method. Follow the FC/CYA Levels

I found that there is an improvement in skin feel and less dryness after switching to SWCG, but we hadn't experienced the kind of extreme dry skin you're describing prior to the switch. We run 80ppm CYA, so that's part of the equation.

I installed the Jandy TruClear SWCG in 2019, and I've been thrilled with its performance. Completely rock solid. Almost zero maintenance. Plugged into the Jandy Aqualink RS automation. I can't recommend this unit highly enough. I recommend storing the salt cell and ordering a winter cap for the unit (available accessory) for use when it's too cold to generate chlorine (under 55F) and especially if a hard freeze is coming as the clear viewing window in the cap is susceptible to cracking if the water in the cell freezes. I did add in a variable speed Jandy 2.7hp E-pump at the same time...if you don't currently have a VS pump that's probably a need as well.

That is just the cell. I believe you will need a power center with it.

Yep that is just the cell portion you also need the power supply. It is this part - Jandy AquaPure Power Supply - APUREM - INYOPools.com which I don't think they sell direct to consumers. You could probably find it someplace online but you risk them not honoring the warranty if it fails.

So that salt system wouldn’t just plug into this? Sorry if I sound dumb, (my first pool and the builder didn’t want to install a salt system, aka every builder here!!)

Yes, there is a power supply version that installs in the box you have. When you order Aqualink and their SWG usually that box would be pre-built with the SWG controller. The knockout plate gets the SWG control panel.

Hi all!

Im about to convert my pool with a salt water generator! Parts on order and should arrive in a few days. I’ll be doing a self install of the CircuPool Edge 40.

I was doing pool math this morning and it appears when I add the salt to the pool the CSI number went off the chart!

Current readings:
fc 1.5
cc 0
ph7.6
alk 70
ch 200
cya approx 20
temp 73
this gives a csi in range of -.22

So when I increase the cya’s to 70, the recommended level for a swg and add salt to get 3,400 the csi goes to -.6 well out of range.

So when I play with the numbers it looks like I need to increase calcium, maybe up to 450?? That brings the csi to -.26. And as summer approaches the water temp will increase dramatically and the csi will lower.

Is my thinking correct??

Low CSI is of no issue to you. You have a vinyl liner. With your fill water and rain, you do not need to mess with CSI.

So a low CSI won’t affect the equipment or the stone coping around the pool? I just need to keep the ph in check then?

Well, I went out this morning to buy the salt for the conversation. I was estimating approx 15 bags so that’s what I picked up. Shortly after getting home my Taylor salt test kit arrived. I did the test and the pool is already at 1,600! I didn’t expect it to be that high! Now I will only need about 7 bags of salt lol. So what should I do with the remaining 8? How likely will they get used up within a year? Hmm... return some or keep, idk.
