Intellicenter vs pump selection

I am looking to replace my 14 year old Hayward Aqualogic system with a pentair Intellicenter system. I have a Hayward 244t sand filter and 1.5 inch pipes for the skimmers, drains, waterfall feature, and spa. I do have a Hayward 400k gas heater, spa blower, Polaris booster pump, and a Hayward led light. My pool is around 28000 gallons. I currently have 2 pumps (pool and waterfall) and one just died, which spurred the replacement of the whole system. Well I am also a techie and miss the remote control of the system. Would you select the superflo vs or the intelliflo vs for type of system? Would the superflo vs require more relays?

What model number and HP are your existing pumps? 120V or 240V?

If you get the Superflo Vs pump you must confirm it is a VST pump manufactured after 11/5/2020 and has the RS-485 connection for the IntelliCenter.

With a Pentair pump with RS-485 data connection the pump gets continuous power and does not connect use a relay. However the first relay position is still dedicated to your filter/pump relay abd turns on and off with your pump.

Do you use a SWG to chlorinate your pool?

Main pump is 1.65 and waterfall pump is 3/4. Both are 240v
 
You need the SuperFlo® VST and SuperMax® VS pumps manufactured after 10/15/20 with the RS-485 connection.

SuperFlo pump by Pentair is a direct replacement for the Hayward® Super Pump®. Either the Superflo or IntelliFlo pumps will work for you.

Is your goal to use one pump for your pool/spa and water feature? If so I would go with the IntelliFlo pump.. It is considered by most to the "Gold Standard" of pool pumps.

The IntelliFlo, and the new SuperFlo VST with RS-485, do not use any relays.. The only pumps that would use a relay would be single speed or 2 speed pumps. In your case the booster pump for your antique pool cleaner.

You might think that a 3 HP pump would be too big for your pool... That is just not true. A VS pump is really a variable horsepower pump, you just adjust the HP to suit the task at hand. One advantage of a large VS pump is that you can run it slowly, yet still move a lot of water. The whole goal of having a VS pump is to run as slow as possible, most of the time, to save on the electrical bill. Also, the slower you run, the quieter the pump will be.

I run my IntelliFlo 24/7 at 1200 rpm, most of the time and it costs me less than $20 bucks a month. You don't need to run 24/7, just something that I like to do. If you run less than 24/7, it just means it will cost you even less.

Thanks for the response. Do you think I could get away will just one intelliflo pump for the pool and waterfall feature? I would need a third valve actuator for the output for the waterfall, if I went that direction. The skimmer line and 1 bottom drain currently go to the pool pump, with the spa drain on an actuator. The water fall feature is tied to the second drain. For main output there is an actuator for pool return, pressure cleaner, and spa return. The output for the water fall is the only return from that pump currently.

In my mind it depends on how you run your waterfall and how big it is.. If it is a large waterfall that needs a lot of water, then a single speed waterfall pump would be best.

If it is a smaller waterfall that you don't run often, then you could use just one pump.

The whole reason to have a VS pump is to run it slowly to save on the electrical bill.. But if you run the waterfall all the time, it would not make sense to run a VS pump at almost full speed all the time.
