Unsure if this is normal operation of SWG or time to replace?

I have a Hayward Swim Pure Plus SWG that came with the house I just bought. The salt cell needed replacing. I replaced the salt cell and added the appropriate amount of salt. When switching the SWG from the OFF position to Auto, the SWG seems to be working correctly. I get Cell Voltage readings of 24.6 and Cell Current readings of 4.8 which according to the manual is within the proper values when generating chlorine. However after about 30 minutes the SWG change to Cell Voltage of 32.2 and Cell Current of 0.00, which according to the manual is consistent with readings you would get when NO chlorine is being generated. Since I've never seen this or any SWG generator working before I'm not sure if this is the typical operation of the unit. Also when the latter voltage of 32.2 and current of 0.00 occur, the SWG panel still has the green "generating" light on. Can anyone tell me if this is normal operation or time to replace?

That sounds like normal operation.

What is the cell generation %?

The generating cycle is probably 180 minutes. At 70%, it will generate for 126 minutes and then it will stop generating for 54 minutes. Aquarite will have the generating led stay on when the switch is in auto even when it's not actually generating. The instant salinity and the amps will be zero when not generating.

Then, it will reverse polarity and a new 180 minute cycle will begin

With Firmware Revision 1.55 (5/8/2009) the cycle time (reverses polarity) changed from 120 minutes (2 hrs) to 180 minutes (3 hrs

Looks like the percentage is 60%.

60% of 180 minutes is 108 minutes.

Output is scaled back to 20% at 60° F and output stops at 50° F

If the temperature is 60 degrees or lower the output percentage is 20% or 20% of 60% of 180.

So, it will be .2 x 180 = 36 minutes or .2 x .6 x 180 = 21.6 minutes.

What is the cell generation %?
I'm unsure of the cell generation % as I dont see that item mentioned in the manual. Are you referring to the manual knob on the panel? If so I have it set to just above 50 and its showing 57P on the display. The manual calls that the desired output. Also the firmware on my unit is 1.40 in case that matters.

Yup, that is 57% like James calculated.

Pressing the diagnostic button sequentially will display:
  • Default salt display
  • Pool temp
  • Cell Voltage - When not generating, the voltage is about 30 to 32 volts dc. When generating, the voltage drops about 1 volt per amp of current.
  • Cell current
  • Desired output (% of the knob)
  • Instant salinity
  • Product name
  • Software revision (r.XX)

Pool temp is 58 degrees according to SWG
