Hello new to TFP

Hi, I just wanted to stop in and say hello. I am fairly new to pool stuff, I purchased a hime a little over a year ago that has an IG 20K pool and we managed to keep it clear through our first summer by trial and error with opening and closing it ourselves from watching videos etc. I am hoping to be more in charge and proactive this year and learn as much as possible about pool care here.
We struggled to get our SWG working properly last summer and am thinking about replacing ALL replaceable parts prior to opening this spring, but not sure if it is worth the money to do so or should we just replace it? Thanks for any advice and comments.

Welcome TY. This site is a gold mine for pool owners. Chlorine availability became an issue in 2020 and I anticipate 2021 will see more surprises. SWG system prices are already rising, not sure about replacement parts but would make sense the costs are headed higher. Trichlor may be difficult to source soon from some reports. Last season liquid chlorine prices rose and availability was an issue so expect more of the same this summer.

I agree with your proactive approach and suggest that you move fast on securing your sanitation system before winter breaks. How old is your current SWG system?

Thank you for the welcome Oly. I don’t know for sure how old the SWG is I am assuming that it was the original that was put in when the pool/house were built in 2006. So 14yrs old most likely. I did try to work with a gentleman that works with a company that sells AutPilot Digital parts online last summer and we ran several tests and reported back to him and in the end we didn’t end up getting any clear answers so we didn’t end up purchasing the replacement parts.
I just don’t know what the best route to go would be. I know we needed up using more shock than I would of liked last summer to keep things clear but my understanding is that should not have been needed if the SWG was working correctly.

There are several possible reasons why your SWG system did not keep up last season. Your FC demand may be very high so explore the CYA/FC ratio relative to a salt system, FC/CYA Levels also determine your daily FC loss, Overnight Chlorine Loss Test as you may have a low level algae population that should be eradicated SLAM Process
It also may me that your SWG system is undersized for your pool.
Start by getting a pool water test kit that allows you the precision to dial in your water chemistry. Test Kits Compared Recommended Levels
