Spigot question and how to drain

Hello!
We are getting some pretty good rain here today and should probably get around 5-6” total. I’m new to pool ownership so it got me thinking about how I would remove water from my pool if I had to.

we don’t have a bottom drain our pool, so I’m thinking my only option is buying a sump pump - but curious what this spigot circled in yellow is for? Could I attach a hose to it and drain the pool here? I read a post about pools in hurricanes that says the spigot/valve between the pump and filter can be used to drain, but when I googled it, the video tutorials I found didn’t look like my setup so I wasn’t sure.

Yes you could attach a hose to it to drain, pump has to run continuously though. You're probably better off using a sump pump we do when necessary.

Only if the spigot is above the waterline. If it's below the water line, then it's a siphon. Either way, you have to keep an eye on the water level, unless the spigot happens to be at your target level.

Seeing as the pipes lead into and from the ground, sort of assumed that the water line was below the spigot especially given that the OPs signature states IG Fiberglass.

Most inground pools have the system located above the level of the pool water. That will be the last word from me on this subject.
