Do I need to worry about a little algae?

We have an above ground pool, I have chosen not to close it for the winter. We have a mild climate that may experience some freeze days but some years we have none at all, so the hassle didn’t seem worth it. During the summer, the pool was sparkling and perfectly clear, no issues at all. I put chlorine in every day or every other day and vacuumed once a week.

This fall I have not had much time to deal with it. While the water is clear, it doesn’t have that “sparkle” and there is a thin film of green on the stairs and some spots on the bottom where the current doesn’t flow as much. I’ve got it set to run the pump 4 hrs (broken up into 30 min-1 hr segments). CYA is low from tons of rain, so I am using a floater to keep Chlorine up but it is taken a realllllly long time to dissolve the tablet.

Water chem taken today
2.5 fc
0-.5 cc
7.7 ph (raised it from 7.5)
75 ta
200 ch
30 cya

Are my numbers ok? I usually work to keep CSI close to 0, according to the calculator it’s -.4ish right now. And does the algae on the pool liner matter so much? It’s going to be at least a week until I can mess with running the vacuum.

thanks for the help!

How much chlorine do you put in every day? Put more in. Get your FC up around 8. If necessary get your FC up to SLAM FC level of 12 for a while. A floater with trichlor tablets is not going to get you there.

Everything else is fine for a vinyl pool. CSI does not matter for a vinyl pool.

Why did you raise your pH from 7.5? That was fine.

CYA of 30 is fine this time of year.

Your pool just needs some good doses of liquid chlorine. Stay ahead of any algae outbreak so it doesn't turn into a green swamp.

Thank you! I raised ph because it tends to drop with the floater and I didn’t want it to go much lower. It’s a little weird forgetting about CSI because I learned this method with a hot tub where that DOES matter. I had slammed a couple weeks ago when the water was not clear and then kept the chlorine at a low level but I guess not high enough. Is 8 where I should aim to keep it or can I drop it after the algae clears up?
