Possible New Pool In Central FL

You can do the final grade now but know it will get "messed up" by the workers even if they try to be careful. It might be worth it though as you will at least have the base done so may only need some touch up work when they are through. No way to really know what will happen in the end.

I'll help move it. I will need the following:
- round trip plane ticket
- round trip Uber to / from airport
- 2 shovels (1 for you, 1 for me)
- wheelbarrow
- gloves
- cherry pepsi
- access to bluetooth speaker
- wifi password
- couch to sleep on
- access to a shower

Need a piece of advice.... Since our area is not able to be compacted by a bobcat I'm going to have to rent something. Is a vibratory plate tamper good enough to do this or do I need to rent a jumping jack compactor? The plate tamper is easier to use but I know the Jumping Jack has more force I just don't know if I were to fill the water tank on the plate tamper if it would give me enough compaction for the patio.

Compacting in layers probably isn't an option since the bobcat guy will want to get out of there as quickly as he can.

Plate Tamper
Jumping Jack

Or do I need a roller? Roller

The only machine that can compact 8" in a pass is a reversible plate compactor that is huge and usually diesel powered. The one i borrow occasionally is 800pds I use the bobcat to unload it. The jumping Jack is alot of work amd not fast either. Gotta do it in 2" lifts with a good plate like a wacker 1550 amd moisten it before packing it. Helps to compact and keeps dust down

I was afraid of an answer like this. Unfortunately we have a large area that would have to be compacted (approx. 1,200 sq ft) and a lot of dirt to move on the far side of the patio (where the bobcat can't get). I can possibly get the bobcat to compact the dirt on one side of the patio but the far side it wouldn't be possible. I could rent a large reversible plate tamper but I don't have a bobcat to move it around (best I could do is getting it close with a trailer with a ramp).

I'd have to go to my local branch but from sunbelt's website the smallest reversible plate tamper they have is this one (they have larger too) Plate Tamper Reversible 450lb 19.5" Wide | Sunbelt Rentals

How are you getting the dirt moved to the side where the bobcat can't go? Why not put some in and pack it, then do another lift and pack it, repeat as needed?

He can move the dirt and dump it but from the opposite side of the wall (or I can shovel it out of his bucket) I'll try to get some better pictures when it gets light.

A step by step approach might be my only option it would just cost more since he'd be on site longer I think. I need to talk to the person with the bobcat and see what he says.

Still hard to see the actual access for equipment with the pics However it certainly looks like a mini excavator would be more appropriate if you are looking to save your back. It can lay in the lifts much easier than the bobcat. Running a bobcat over the area is not a acceptable means of compaction. Are you having a contractor lay or pour the patio? If so I would ask them how they need the area prepped for the deck. You should be putting at least 6" of a structural material on top of any common fill and the common fill needs to be free from organic material and compacted in proper lifts to avoid any settlement.
