Never had algae a outbreak in over 14 years, but last week or so I keep seeing a dusting of green algae. I’ve brushed several times and checked FC/CC and FC hasn’t been below 4 and 0 CC. Dumped 121 oz bleach in yesterday and brought FC to 11 and still no CC.
each time I brush, I stir up more green dust. CYA is 60 as of today. Thoughts from you pros? Slam even if no CC?

Yes SLAM. CC is only one of the three criteria indicating a SLAM is over or not needed. You've got algae, you SLAM. Let us know if you need any help with that.

Why the sudden algae? You might need to check the SWG's performance. How old is it? You can check how many hours of chlorine production it's got left (see the owner manual). Or maybe you've got a dead critter hiding somewhere? In those rocks? In the skimmer?

I’m on 3rd IC 40 SWG just replaced this summer. Clean skimmers regularly. Guess I’ll get FC to 24 and begin the slam. PH is 7.5 so I guess that’s ok. Thx for the input.

From the SLAM directions.
  • Check and adjust the PH to between 7.2 and 7.5. The PH test isn’t reliable during SLAMing so make sure to take care of this before you start.
If your pH is generally stable and doesn't rise, then 7.5 is OK. Otherwise, drop to 7.2, as you won't be able to test pH during the SLAM to monitor its rise. Also, the decreased pH helps with the sanitizing process.
