Looking at Dolphin Nautilus CC bot but have questions

Hi everyone! A few quick facts about our pool first of all: 11k gallon pool, 6' at the deepest, non-salt, Pentair 4 cartridge filter and Pentair variable speed pump.

We currently have a Pentair Rebel suction side vacuum. When the parts are new and it works, it's great. However it costs me about $200 a year in maintenance between the larger hump tires (to get over the pool drains) and left/right drive kits due to the plastic wearing constantly.

I have a couple of questions before I pull the trigger on the Dolphin Nautilus CC though. Hoping you guys can help.

* I currently run the pump on low for most of the day, then switch to high speed for 4 hours to run the Pentair Rebel cacuum. Can I run only the low speed on the pump now that I have the bot instead of suction side cleaner? This would be a tremendous upside since not running on high speed would save on power.

* Ok to leave in the pool at all times? What I like about the suction side cleaner is that I can leave it in at all times and not have to worry.

* Is the Dolphin Nautilus CC good enough for my pool since we have little to no debris in pool? I don't think I need the CC Plus since there isn't much to pick up on a regular basis and it will save us money on initial cost.

* Does the Dolphin Nautilus CC tend to get stuck on drains at the bottom of the pool? Our Pentair Rebel gets stuck unless I have the large hump tires installed which are $100. Don't want to have to go through that again.

No one can tell you if a robot will get stuck on your main drain or not, as it depends on how your drain is installed in your particular pool with the specific robot..

I would personally go with a Dolphin S200, unless you want the bells and whistles, then go with the S300 or 300i.

Most people here use Marina Pool and Spa.. You have to call as they can't sell on the internet.. I bought two of their S200's and could not be happier. 2 Day free shipping, no tax, 2 year warranty. They are sometimes hard to get a hold of.. At the time they were $700.. I think they have gone up a few bucks since then..

If you like to see a cleaner in your pool, you can leave the robot in if you want. At my house the robot only goes in when the pool is dirty.. I have a couple of rent house that have robots and they stay in the pool 24/7..

I guess what I was really wanting to know about the drain is if there are known issues with the Dolphin Nautilus CC getting caught on drains in general. For example the Pentair I have is so we'll known for getting stuck that they sell very expensive larger tires for it.

I've seen the Dolphin S200 and other options, but the price point of the Nautilus CC is attractive, especially considering I don't have much debrit that enters my pool. I think at this point I'm set on the Nautilus, but I will look into the S200 more.

Good to know it can stay in at all times. I may only put it in when needed, however if I'm cleaning often I don't necessarily want to have to deal with it every time.

Does anyone have any input on no longer running the high speed on the pump once I have the bot? As far as I know the only reason for me to run the high speed was for the suction side cleaner.

Excellent, thank you Jim. This is what I assumed, but wanted to be sure. That alone is a fantastic reason to switch from a suction side to the bot. As we all know the power consumption goes up quite a bit from low speed to high speed on the variable speed pumps.
 
I just bought a bot in August (active 30i) I run my pump 5 hours a day 30min 1200RPM 4 hours 25OO RPM 30 min 1200RPM I cut my time down 3 hours since I bought the bot I run the bot about 2 hours averaging every other day all I know since I've been using the bot the pool is really clean. Reading Jim's replies I going to lower the RPM do a little experimenting. Have you bought a bot yet?

Not yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll be buying the Nautilus CC. And I will no longer run the pump on high speed since it won't be needed without the suction side vacuum.
 
FWIW, I’ve had the CC for a good portion of the summer and it’s never got stuck on anything. It does sometimes have trouble on the steps, but has never got stuck there without being able to free itself eventually. It cleans way better than the pressure side cleaner I had which would get stuck on nearly anything...the steps and the ladder specifically.

Great to hear! Thank you for posting your experience. I feel that for the price point and what I need it's a great option for me.
