Outdoor Pavilion Build

Everyone thinks they can do things:

1. open a restaurant.
2. run a business.

that sucks. I’m sorry.

I always tell my wife she doesn’t realize how lucky we were building. I had guys working Christmas Eve. New Year’s Day. Every weekend. Sunday’s. She used to get mad when I wouldn’t ask for estimates. She didn’t understand it. She does now. How can u ask someone who held I as a baby how much it’s going to cost. I swear my mason who is my dads best friend bricked my house for 1 dollar an hour. I m my guy we didn’t know was drywall and ya we had to babysit him. My carpenter would show up everyday to get a hammer or 5 nails. Obvious stuff that they were being watched the drywall finally said I know I know. My carpenter was like “exactly we watch over this kid. He is our son. So I don’t have to tell you any more”. But ya he would have screwed me probably.

Yes exaaaactly!!
You are lucky you had good guys working for you.... That is such a blessing!!

That’s going to be awesome when it’s done.

Good contractors are hard to find, and my family has been in construction for a long time. Thats why I end up doing a lot of the work myself. My grandfather started the family business in 1952.

Had a friend GC my pool house and it was probably a mistake. His cost was lower, but the quality isn’t quite what I had hoped. Foundation was put too low and the house is a little crooked. Live and learn. Don’t hire friends to do work. It’s really hard to fire someone you golf with on weekends.

half my house was my friends and the other half were my father's best friends. they all built their houses together in the 70's. that is what made my house so easy and this project i had people who wanted to be there and cared for me like family. same goes for my friends.

Custom cabinet company we worked with. The finish Carpentry guy is the son of our original finish carpenter (who is still working at 75). He spends the majority of his time redoing old churches.

Another update.... Long weekend of painting.... Not a fan of painting. At. All. But we pushed through and got it done. The back of the Cabana and the ceiling are finished.
Next, we are staining the bar and 6x6 posts along with the beams. Then finishing up final touches including spots that need to be cut, electric, bar rail foot rest and trim work.
