Hayward ProLogic Wireless automation?

Hi All,

I am reposting on this topic - got busy on other things and now getting back to the pool - I know, I know, opposite of what my priorities should be!

Have a 2018 in-ground pool with Hayward ProLogic 4 controller - I think it is a P-4 not a P-4, but not sure ... have a gas heater, no electric valves, two speed pump, one set of LED lights.

I would like to control all from inside the house/around the pool - without walking to the control panel outside the enclosure and around the house.

In a perfect world, I would like to control all from iPad, or iPhone etc - but this looks harder than it should be ... other option is a wireless device like Hayward's devices like the AQL-2-POD 2 rechargeable wireless device, or a wireless wall or desktop device like the AQL-2/P-4 or PS-4. I recognize a wireless receiver interface is required on the ProLogic controller panel.

While this seems simple on the surface, I haven't read of others' experiences - anyone been through this decision process?

When we had our pool installed in 2012 we went with the Prologic PS-8, wireless receiver, Aquapod, and PS-8 tabletop wireless remote. Never had any problem with these remotes other than the battery in Aquapod not holding much of a charge after a couple of years. Two years ago I got the Aquaconnect. I can access all Prologic functions from any computer in our house. I can also access all Prologic functions from my Android tablet and Android phone. If I am at home, I can directly connect to the Aquaconnect from my phone or tablet. If I am away from home, I can still connect to our Prologic with my phone or tablet by going through the Hayward Aquaconnect website; response to commands is delayed by a few seconds when using the Hayward website. I have no idea if Aquaconnect supports iphones or ipads.

Other than a couple of very minor gripes, I am very pleased with the Prologic remote access provided by Hayward.
 
You can get an aql2-base-rf and a aql2-pod2.
Or an aql2-base-rf and a aquaconnetc home connect to control it from your smart phone. This is convenient to use on a smart phone but very slow and not even as close to the speed of a aql2-pod2 remote.
Either way you would need the RF base antenna.

If you use your smartphone within range of your home's wifi, you can connect directly to the aquaconnect (point your phone's browser to the IP address of the aquaconnect). Response time is the same as using any of the Hayward remotes. If you are away from you home, you have to connect via the Hayward Aquaconnect website. In this case response to commands is delayed by a few seconds.

Assuming you are connecting direct to the Aquaconnect (e.g. not using the Aquaconnect app), then my first thought is there is a problem with the wifi at your house. Is there a strong wifi signal where you have the Aquaconnect located? Does the response time vary as you move around your house?

The other possibility is communication between the Aquaconnect and the Prologic. Does the Aquaconnect have a similar line of sight to your Prologic as do the Hayward remotes?

Here is how to connect directly:
1. Log in to your router
2. Look in the DHCP section
3. Look for the list of DHCP clients
4. Determine the IP address of your Aquaconnect. This can be tricky since the Aquaconnect is not identified by name. My home network currently has 12 DHCP clients. There is only one with a name of "Unknown" and it is the Aquaconnect. Depending what other devices are on your home network, you may have multiple unknown devices and will have to do some testing to find the correct address.
5. On your phone, start up Chrome (or whatever Internet browser that you use). At the top of the screen where you specify the name of the website you want to connect to, type the IP address of your Aquaconnect. At my home, the Aquaconnect address is 192.168.1.106.
6. You will now see a screen with all the same buttons as on your Prologic main panel. Tip: To access the Configuration menu, you just tap on the window where it says "Configuration Menu - Locked" to unlock it.

Also, if your Aquaconnect is disconnected from your home wifi for a significant length of time (typically more than a day), when it reconnects it may be assigned a different IP address.
