Any suggestions about going away for a week and not being able to pour bleach into the pool? Anything wrong with over chlorinating and covering it?

No neighbors that would enjoy your pool all for the low cost of, "dump this much chlorine in each day?"
There is also the idea of using the trichlor pucks only while your gone (because, you know), understanding the slight rise in CYA.

Raise the FC to SLAM level and cover the pool. I assume the cover is a winter cover that does not let any light through it.

Yeah, key question on the cover type. I was just away for 12 days and my autocover was closed (so opaque). My FC went up 1.5 with my SWG running and it was generating .3 PPM of FC per day. Normal FC usage is 1.5 per day max which is on the low side. So my actual usage was about .2 per day. I was nervous about setting it that low but previous year's experience of setting it too high told me it should be ok. Just a data point in the discussion.
