My sig should have the pool details, but just in case...
~ 13.5k IG plaster. Phoenix AZ, so lots of heat/sun.

Right now, being the midst of summer I'm using ~ 1/2 gal of 12.5% daily. Looking back in my poolmath summary - it looks like I use ~60-70 gals/yr of 12.5%, which comes to ~$300/yr in my area.

Having read a few other posts, is sounds like ~1lb Cl is ~ 1gal of 12.5%, so it seems like for _normal_ operation, I need a minimum of 0.5lb/day generation, but obviously, wouldn't want to run 24/7, so if, for example, I got a unit generating 1.4lb/day, I should be able to run ~8hr/day @ 100% to meet my peak Cl needs in the summer, and then tone it down in the winter. Is this sizing using sound judgement/calculations?

Next up - I'm looking at the Circupool Core-35 model (or potentially Core-55). I like the ease of installation aspect. Don't have to mount separately, and just 1 cut in the pipe. Anyone have any strong opinions again this line? Alternatives I'm thinking are still circupool (edge or RJ lines), as they seem to have the most bang for the buck, and reasonable cell replacement costs. Any strong opinions for or against one of these, or the manufacturer in general?

I don't have any plans for automation for my pool.

Finally, for the attached pic, since this needs to go after my filter, I imagine I'm going to need to go vertical, and then over and back down. Thoughts? Is it too tight, and I might have to replace the valve too?

Here's another pic from overhead. I'm afraid I don't have room to cut. Do I have to cut somewhere past the valve, and replace all that? Or how would you replumb this to add in an swg (looking for the easiest way for the amateur, that has only watched others do it, and not actually done any replumbing before)

Is that a blade valve going into your filter? You can probably take that out, get a new union for your filter and go vert from there for your SWG cell. (I sound like a fighter pilot..."we're going vert!"). If you still need that valve put it in the vertical run up to the flow switch. .. that's my thoughts... all this talk of going vert has tired me out.. I'm going to get horizontal now.

A core 35 cell in your pool should generate 12 ppm of FC when run at 100% and for 24 hours..

That means generates .5 ppm / hour. So 8 hours at 100% is 4 ppm of FC.

I would go with the 55 so that you don't have to run at 100% output..

I don't know about the Core specifically, but in general the CircuPool SWCGs get good reviews here at TFP..

I'm not sure what a blade valve is? The valve next to the filter is the push/pull valve for backwashing.

Thanks Jim. I know it's never bad to go bigger, but it would come to about 20% more upfront cost. I'll have to weigh the difference, but the extra cost would probably be made up for in pump run time eventually.

In theory, if you use the TFP pool care process, you should never have to SLAM.. I'm almost embarrassed to say that I have never had to SLAM.. One of my pools is over 10 years old, one is over 7 years old and the one at my house is over 6 years old.. If you have to SLAM more than once, you are just not doing it right.. :)

Yeah I've slammed more out of precaution when I forgot or was unable to tend to Chlorine for 3+ days and fc dropped below 1. It's always been sparkling since following tfp!
