dirt and a greenish tint

According to the CYA chlorine chart you should be above 5FC @60 CYA. With a target of 7-9. I'd do a SLAM, be and then stay@ 7FC or above and that should clear up the green.

Likely the "dirt" it's dead algae. Is it super fine? As in lightly disturbing the water near it stirs it up?
yes sir, you hit the nail on the head. it was super fine and no matter how many times I brushed it came back.

I am sorry we are having communication issues. You are following the SLAM Process to rid your pool of algae. In the article, the link FC/CYA Levels takes you to the chart to determine your SLAM level FC for your CYA.

You then MAINTAIN that SLAM level FC by testing FC and adding chlorine. You do that every few hours, or as the statement above says, Test and adjust chlorine levels as frequently as practical, but not more than once per hour, and not less than twice a day.

If I didn't know better, I would assume you were pranking us. Have you read the SLAM article? Can you acknowledge to us that you have?
no, why would i be pranking you. Yes Ir ead it 3 times. Its super vague. It doesn't state times to stay at shock level or anything. Sorry to be a pain but I am merely asking a simple question. I CAME TO YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE THE EXPERTS, not me. I just want to know the next step and not be told just to read an article(again). no matter how many times I read it it still doesnt state, "when you reach your shock level, THEN DO ... for this amount of time til...... again. to you guys this stuff is crystal clear but to alot us newbies its rocket science.

ok but for how long do I maintain the slam level, til the pool is clear or a specific amount of time? I just added 4 cups to get back up to 24(my slam level)., thanks for the response. Mark

That article has been written and re-worked more than 100 times in 13 years. It has many attributes but "super vague" is not one of them.

Okay, I am happy to walk you through every SINGLE step.....one step at a time.

Please post a complete set of test results.......the SLAM cannot be started until you do that.

but for how long do I maintain the slam level
You are done when:

When all three are true, you are done SLAMing and can allow the FC to drift down to normal levels.

Sir, i have posted the results yesterday and the slam was started yesterday at 3 pm. I posted the results of the FC and CC abut 20 mins ago

thank you sir for your help. if I have any more questions, Ill ask but I think I got it now. I will maintain the 24 level for now, test t he water tonight before bed, test again in the AM and go from there.

Ok, so you are doing really great! The SLAM is not so hard.

Now, I assume you are saying what you posted 36 min ago was what you are referring to as 20 minutes ago. That report showed an FC of 22 and I don't care about the CC test.

Calculate and add enough FC to get the TOTAL FC back to 24....2 ppm. Wait roughly six hours and test and post FC again.

Is your pump running 24/7?

What is your current psi?

When was the last time you backwashed?

thanks for the response. Yes sir 24/7... i just added about 4 cups to get back to 24. psi is 10.

Ok soooo confused here. As you know tested my water this morning at 22 FC. I just tested it again and it's at 8!! That's a drop of 14 in 8 hrs! My water looks great but I added 3 gallons to bring back to 24
This stuff is super complex

Mark, you're doing great. In no time the FC will be holding overnight and then you maintain the FC at your target non-SLAM level (7-9). As long as you do that this will be the only SLAM you'll need this season.

That CYA is a blessing and curse. Too little and your FC will disappear fast, too much and you have to increase your FC maintenance level. High CYA is what brought me to the board. LC adds no CYA, unlike pucks and powders, so using only LC means you'll never have the CYA increasing over time again.

Keep the SLAM going until you pass the OCLT. You're doing great!

OK. Keep in mind that ONLY two things consume chlorine......sunlight and organics (algae mostly) in your water. So, when you test this AM you can know that the result is how much you lost overnight and you can contribute that to organics in your pool.

The solution for this AM is the same as yesterday. Calculate the dosage that you need to get back up to 24 and put it in your pool. Tell us what your test result was and how much chlorine you put in your pool to get back up to 24

I would suggest you do the same test and add process again about 11:00 AM.

What product are you using for chlorination. Bleach?

Are you running the pump 24/7. You should brush up the "dust" off the bottom of the pool today.

Do you have a manual vacuum or a robot? You should run it today

Check and report your psi and hour or so after you brush.

This stuff is not complex as long as you follow the above instructions.

STAY OUT OF THE POOL STORE.....it only confuses you.

-----WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO 22 PPM. I didn't test last night b/c the level was at a 8 so I added enough to get back to 24 and went to bed.

------90/10 liquid chlorine

Hi Mark. Since your goal is to keep the water at SLAM level as much as possible until tyour pool stops eating chlorine (meaning that anything that was growing is clearing out), you’ll want to test often, using the Pool Math app to figure out how much chlorine to add. So, if you are trying to maintain FC at 24, test it, and add what Pool Math tells you. In 2 or 3 hours, test it again. Below 24? Add what Pool Math tells you to get back to 24. Repeat every few hours.

The more frequently you do this, the faster your SLAM will go. When you get to the point where your water is clear and you aren’t having to add chlorine frequently, you can do the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test (OCLT) to see if it is safe to end the SLAM.

Once you do end SLAM, test FC daily and make sure to add chlorine to your target level, based on your CYA.
