SLAM isn't one time. You have to test and raise Fc as frequently and often as you can. Especially so with your higher CC results
Yes, I realize it’s not a one time. It’s Shock Level (20 based on my CYA) and Maintain (at 7ppm), based on my current numbers. So I’m shocking to reduce CC and maintaining at 7, once I’ve reduced. Shocking is done at night, as I will this evening. I feel like I’m missing something based on your replies.SLAM isn't one time. You have to test and raise Fc as frequently and often as you can. SLAM Process is SHOCK LEVEL MAINTAINED, meaning keep it at FC/20 all day/night (FC/20 is CYA/50 shock level), until no CC's, clear and no FC loss overnight. Not just raising FC overnight. If I add more chlorine today to up the level to 20, would that not gas out? Should that not be done at night?
According to the Pool Math App, it’s as I stated, Shock Level and Maintain. I hate to be picky but, see my screenshot of the app.SLAM Process is SHOCK LEVEL MAINTAINED, meaning keep it at FC/20 all day/night (FC/20 is CYA/50 shock level), until no CC's, clear and no FC loss overnight. It won't gas out, you have CYA that protects the FC from UV and allows it to "work" on the organics in the water. Raising FC only at night would be the safer choice ONLY if no CYA present and not available.
It's fine to be picky! Did you read the SLAM Process instructions? Screenshot of the "slam" part... Notice the second part of the first instruction, "Test and adjust (should say raise) chlorine levels as frequently as practical (from hourly and no less than twice a day). Chlorine additions should be frequent"According to the Pool Math App, it’s as I stated, Shock Level and Maintain. I hate to be picky but, see my screenshot of the app.
Yes, I did a slam last night to raise FC, which it did but CC is still present and too hi. I will continue to slam tonight after sunset to lower CC and increase FC to shock level (20 per chart)
Excellent points and thank you for raising them. I’ll continue the chlorine additions to achieve shock levels until CC is reduced. It's fine to be picky! Did you read the SLAM Process instructions? If you are more comfortable with only upping it at night, it's simply going to take longer to clear the water, since the FC is only being raised to "effective" once every day, instead of hourly/as needed to maintain FC/20 (for your pool levels).
Whew! Finally made it. 25 gallons of 12% liquid chlorine and I’m at shock level. Took 3 days.Morning!
You raised the FC right? Is there anyway to recheck in about 30min and raise it again? (Not sure if anyone is home or able to add chlorine during the day)
No loss overnight and 0ppm CC. This method really is great!Whew! Finally made it. 25 gallons of 12% liquid chlorine and I’m at shock level. Took 3 days.
Will perform the OCLT tonight
Thanks again to everyone for their help!
