Pool Newbie, Cloudy Salt Water

11ppm this AM and the clearest I’ve seen it. Some funk in the bottom of the deep end.

Question on measuring CC - I’ve noticed it may only take 1-2 drops to turn it clear but if I kee stirring for awhile it will get pink again and another 1-2 drops clears it up. I can keep doing this. Is that normal and you just count the first 1-2 drops?

You're done after the initial drops.

just for future information, turn the swg off when adding salt. let it dissolve and mix for a day before turning it back on. i gotta wonder about the knowledge of the "pool pros" if they didn't do this.....unless they had nefarious plans to sell you a new one after they messed up that one?

maddie

How much of the stabilizer has dissolved?

Since you are DIY guy, I will share these points.

A clear pool can be defined by tossing a quarter into the deep end of the pool, and easily being able to read Heads or Tails.

A clear pool does not turn into a swamp overnight, it takes abuse or neglect over a period of time.

And it takes more effort to clean up the pool that to dirty it. So dont let this frustrate you for long term. Keep up on it, and then your chores become much easier (and cheaper)

And just to throw a further wrench in the works, it appears that your swg might be a bit small for your pool. TFP recommends a salt cell twice the size of your pool. Im sure someone will slap me up the side of the head if Im wrong on this.

Hmmm. The way the system is set up here is all one switch. If pump is on SWG is on. I guess I could unplug the cell from the power center.

Almost all of the stabilizer is dissolved. I checked CYA this morning even though I understand it takes a little time to fully register. It was around 20.

Thanks for the good vibes. My hope has been that this is the only time I have to so this!

I don’t know if I can see a quarter but I can see my drain for the first time!

So it sounds like an IC60 is what I should replace with? I’m concerned this one may be at the end of its time anyway. Right now it has a low salt reading and both the Life and Cell lights are flashing. Does the Cell light always flash if it’s Low?

congrats, almost there. side note, same liner as mine, looks greats. second side note/question. You say your pool is 30K gallons. I think it might be closer to 20K gallons. What are the base LxW dimensions of your grecian? Assuming it is a hopper style, 8 foot deep end and 3 foot shallow?

Yes that’s the style 8 ft and 3ft. It’s 40ft long and 20ft wide. Since I couldn’t find a formula for a Grecian/Roman style I did a rectangle and oval then took the average. So far the Pool Math calculator has generally worked using 30k as the number. I added dry acid to take 30k from 7.5 to 7.2 and it was right on the money. Chlorine seems to be a little less FC than the app predicts but I chalked that up to maybe it’s not quite the percentage on the bottle.

Yes! Until all three SLAM Process finishing criteria are passed.

The debris by the drain means not clear yet ;) The clarity is there! But, looking down the longways (from the stairs) you can see the murky or cloudiness still. You are getting so close! LOTS of POP (pool owner patience) and you'll be there!

Any advice on how to get the debris out of the deep end? I tried vacuuming but it’s larger leaf pieces that do not want to cooperate.

Do you have a leaf rake? Something like this one

This allows you to take the pole, drag it along bottom, and scoop up larger particles into the net. I use this daily.
