Water cloudy under cover

So its a really windy day and a small section of my pool cover came off today and it gave me the chance to check the water quality. I closed the pool in perfect condition. Water looks cloudy and possibly starting to turn green. With nearly a month or so to go before opening, what can I do to prevent any further growth of any algae or other things happening to the water under the cover before I officially open? I live in south NJ so its bee avg 50 degrees the past few weeks. Prior to that, fairly chilly in the avg 40s.

You could always pull back the cover and add a gallon of liquid chlorine, mixing it around good either with a long broom or sump pump set up. See if that helps hold things a little longer.

Don't wait too long to open- do it before the water temp hits 60 degrees and algae wake up and start to multiply.

Few things come to mind... right now no pool stores are open. Getting liquid chlorine is like finding gold. So I may be regulated to buying 10% HDX from HD.

I was planning on opening possibly by 5/14. Thats 15 days away. But it is going to be 74 on Sunday. I venture to guess that water has already hit near 60 degrees at some point. I mean its not green, but its definitely cloudy with a chance of going green quick. Some rain water from the top of the tarp got into it too from the cover coming off. I have it clipped everywhere and it works great but the wind was so gusty that it hit near 50 mph in my back yard. So there was nothing I could do.

So you think just adding in some bleach and probably looking to see about opening in 2 weeks? Or should I open it sooner?
 
Have a look in Walmart for the Pool Essentials 10% liquid chlorine in the pool aisle- That would do ya.

Sooner is better than later if its already going cloudy, lets you get started on any clean up project or SLAM process needed so its all ready once it warms up.

I just picked up 5 (3pack 10% HDX) at HD for 8 bucks a pop. Not bad. 128oz each. So, thats 1920oz of 10% to at least get me started.

Opening pool now would just be way too early. I'd be running the pump a full two weeks or more and that water is not going to be any where near close to swimmable until June. I gotta try out adding in the 10% to see how long I can keep it at bay. Tough decision.

Update... I was wrong. Pool store near me is accepting online orders and curbside for liquid chlorine!! YES! So its 12%. I cancelled the HD order. I pick up the chlorine tomorrow and I guess I will decide to either open now or wait a bit.

What does pool store chlorine cost ? I got 10% from walmart at $1 a gallon ...

pool store near us is Leslies and I wouldn't describe them as a local business I want to support. They charge 300% more for standard stuff. Thats not sustainable in 2020

more helpful suggestions from the crowd here. geesh. The bleach was 4.5 weeks old when I bought it in JANUARY. Another moderator said the same thing in that thread in January. The moderators here are consistent at least. Maybe moderation is french for discourage people from participating. if so its working.
