How do you know when your water is clear?!

This might sound like a silly question, lol.
However 1) its the first time I've owned a pool, and have never seen it clear, 2) the liner is a light blue/greeny color! ?‍♂️

It is definitely clearer than previous, and I can see the bottom of the deep end (although it is still not 100% clear).

If you have a deep end, you should be able to see that you have Phillips head screws on your drain cover. If you can't see that then it is not clear. You can also use the quarter test which you throw a quarter in the deep end and be able to tell if it is heads or tails.

On a breeezy day the sparkles off the ripples make it hurt to look at the quarter. Like a million little paparazzis taking your picture.

Get youself a trusted test kit Test Kits Compared post up your results, let the wonderful folks here walk you through it and you'll be getting your picture taken in no time.

I think if you have to ask the question if it is crystal clear, you know your answer. We got about 2 inches of rain last night in Memphis and my pool today is not crystal clear today due to all the Crud cleaned off the trees.

Yip, I'm sure it is not quite there yet, but it is defo far better than when I started about a week ago...I'm just getting impatient lol.

@carnivalday @Newdude I've been recording logs in PoolMath. Can you see them? I know my CYA is lower than it should be but as I'm in the middle of SLAM process I don't want it too high just now.

@AndyTN We had an algae and dirt issue before the rain last night lol. Been SLAM'ing for about a week and itis getting better, but yes, I know we are not there yet. If we weren't in isolation I'd be inviting you round for a beer to advise me! :D

If you went from green to cloudy thats a good thing because the agea is either dying or dead and its just a waiting game while the filter sucks it all out. Keep the FC where it needs to be and finish it off. Have you cleaned the filter ? Its a big one but it still has quite the job to do right now.

Also, this time of year alot of people get cloudy from pollen. Its possible that *some* of your problem is enviornmental and not chemical. If your car/deck/everything else has a dusting on it, so does the pool. It another waiting game for the filter to do its thing, and also a reason to be sure the filter is clean beacuse its a big job.

Poolmath shows your CYA as 40, so your SLAM FC should be 16. I would bump up the FC a bit higher for a few days and it should be crystal clear, then do an OCLT.

Cleaned the filter twice already, last time was yesterday. ? Will check it again tomorrow. Also got socks in the skimmers, and these are filtering up a lot of gunge...less every day though.

You may have been just a bit low for a good SLAM. Will be interesting to see if raising your FC gets you where you want to be. In the morning, before my pump goes on, my pool is crystal clear...I mean crystal, like I can see the tiniest speck of dirt in the deep end (drat, drag out that Dolphin, cant have that!) You'll get there too.

Defo a lot better now. I can see the bottom of the deep end clearly, although it is nothing like the pics posted showing "no water" lol.
I'll continue slamming for another 24 hours and see if it changes tomorrow. After that I'll come back for advice on what to do next.

Question for you, there is some stubborn dirt that is hanging around despite brushing and vacuuming daily. Should it eventually disappear, or will there always be some that drops to the floor/walls? If you all go out and brush your pool right now will it be totally clear, or will you see some clouds of dirt pop up in front if the brush?
Just trying to set my expectations! lol.

Whether its dust, pollen or algae, anything that *poofs* when you touch it / sweep it can be very hard to get, and take many attempts to do so. Let it settle between brushings/vacs and have at it again.
