Pool math app, chemical additions > 3" stabilizer tablets?

Hello,

Just started using the pool math app to log additions of chemicals to the pool (bleach, muriatic acid) but I can't find how to add stabilier tablets to my inline chlorinator. I believe the tablets I'm using are 3" trichlor tablets. I'm adding two every other week in addition to bleach to keep the FC up.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

3" pucks weigh 8 ounces.

Each 3" tab is 8oz of Trichlor. Almost half of it is CYA/Stabilizer so you need ot keep up on the CYA testing. It can get away from you quickly.

With your CYA already at 40 I would save any puck use for vacations or time away from home. Each tab will raise the CYA in your pool by 2.8. It won't take many pucks to get your CYA so high that the pool becomes uncontrollable.

Oh wow, thats interesting information. I'm glad I didn't take what the pool builder said for face value. He said (chuck four pucks in every other week, you might have to add bleach)

I've been using concentrated bleach (8.25%) up to this point, is that sufficient for FC source if I stop using pucks?

Yes, many here just use laundry bleach for their source of chlorine.

I guess I should ask, how are you testing to get your numbers??

So I've been using strips for a spot check (and to determine CYA), and also doing a full test with a pentair kit they gave me for FC, PH & TA. I cant find a picture of the test strips online right now, but they test for four things (ph, FC, TA and CYA)

I just ordered a taylor k-2006 today but strips and simple pentair kit is what ive been using up to this point.

This past weekend was the first time I had to add acid to bring the pH down as it was approaching 8 and from what I read, thats getting a bit too high. Previously I've only added bleach and baking soda to bring the alkalinity up a couple of weeks ago.

Now that its getting warmer and UV is starting to get higher, I wanted to get a better kit and start coming to TFP to ensure I'm maintaining the pool correctly.

Congrats on the new pool! I screwed up two pools before I found TFP. Read the links in the second post. After a few tests, a little reading, and lots of questions, you'll be an expert. It only gets easier from here. Ditch the test strips and stay away from Pool $tores....they'll both add to the confusion and cost you money.

How high did you take the TA? TA causes pH to rise quicker. The higher teh TA the quicker the pH rise.

Guess strips are worthless for any of the readings on the strip.

TA hit 100 before adding acid and currently its at 80
