We just had the Pentair Ultra Pool Heat pump installed. Worked great on day one but now seems to be going into 5 minute restart mode every so often. I am wondering if the plumbing is installed correctly before I go into calling warranty company. Cannot get the pictures posted right side up. 7A5ADB9F-299F-48DA-BCA1-0E44902AE156.jpeg

Welcome to TFP.

Is your Ultratemp controlled by automation?

Please create your signature with details of your pool and equipment. It helps us help you with more specific advice.

BTW, your pictures are upside down.

We can’t see all the hookup to the heater but there is not much to get wrong. Let your installer check it out.

We’re you able to view the 3 pictures I posted?

Yes, except they are upside down on my PC and don;t show me the pipe that loops around to the other side of the heater. I don;t have a full picture of your flow from suction through pump, filter and heater to the return.

There are pipes that disappear out of the pic. I have noted the areas in red that I don't understand.

You need to have your installer put labels on every pipe with their function, label every device, label every valve, and put arrows on every pipe indicating the direction of the water flow.

It is Pool Builder malpractice to deliver a new equipment pad totally unlabeled for the homeowner.

first pipe with T is off the pump and diverts water in a loop to the second T which mixes back with the hot water from the outlet. The lower pipe is elbowed from the outlet and ties back to the 2nd T and returns to the salt cell—then out to pool. Black thing is a a metal rod for the salt cell. Oddly the directions have this diverted looped system. Says you can put a bypass valve on the loop cool water. 1586173617678.png

M,

Do you have the by-pass open or closed when you are having problems with your heater?

I doubt you are going to get anywhere near 120 GPM, unless you are running you pump at full speed, which be ridiculous.

When you are having the heater problem... what is your pump's RPM? And what is the position of the by-pass valve, open or closed???

Thanks,

Jim R.

I don’t see the bypass valve in the pic.

Thank you to all of you who posted on this plumbing problem. Here is the correct install for this equipment setup. Pentair needs to have a better installation and user guide.

M,

Not trying to defend Pentair, as they have a long way to go for their manuals to make sense, but the real villain here was the idiot that did the original installation.

Thanks,

Jim R.
I’m so glad I was able to have a forum to ask question bc something didn’t seem right to me; although it followed the install diagram. I still would like to know how you can ensure the proper flow is going through the unit. Can you add a flow meter? Or will the Easy touch system tell you once it’s connected to the unit?
