I've bought 12.5% liquid chlorine from my local Leslie's for a year or more, as it was a better price than Wallyworld when you took 12.5% vs 10% into account. Yesterday, I called to be sure they still had it in stock (and they hadn't been invaded by the virus locusts looking for any germicides they can find). Yes they had it, but it was no longer $15.99 per box of four 1-gallon jugs. Now, $20...a 25% increase. Anyone else see something like this?

I noticed the same thing at Home Depot on their 10% liquid chlorine. It went up from $6.86 to $8.98 for a case of 2 gallons. I had been thinking about possibly adding a SWG for quite a while now and that finally threw me over the edge. Ordered a Circupool RJ-45+ generator and just finished installing it yesterday. I'm excited that I will no longer have to lug cases of chlorine around.:cool::cool:

Home Depot knows (or their algorithms know) exactly when you want to buy what and their prices reflect the supply/demand. Several of their things have season/off season pricing. Decking/lumber will increase soon also for example.

Someone here pointed out to me that Menard's sells 12.5% for $3.99 a gallon, which they said was the same price as last year (and same as your 4-pack used to be). No Menard's in Texas though.

lol and they will post it on facebook  then the great chlorine shortage of 2020 will start. All across the world people will let their pools turn green refusing to use pucks, but just when you thought the world was ending. People with swg's will start making chlorine for their neighbors pools.
See there is good in the world you just have to have a pool to see it. :swim:

TFP does in fact recommend a SWG that’s 2X in size............ so you can run 12 hours for you, and 12 hours for the neighbor. It’s ALL about helping people here.

I had a little algae crop up with our first warm-up of the season while we were gone at Disney World (turns out the GFI that the SWG was plugged into had tripped). So I set out to find bleach in the midst of The Great Bleach Shortage of 2020. While stores were cleaned out of the regular stuff, Home Depot had fresh stock of their good old HDX “Pool Chlorinating Liquid” and at the same price as last year no less ($9.97 for case of 3).

Now I’m about to add 120 pounds of salt (we had 28 inches of rain in January and February alone) and want to give my FC a little boost ahead of it, so I’m going to go back out and see if they still have it and at the same price. I might even buy a couple cases because it will be better off in my garage than out in the sun where HD keeps it.

Tru'dat!

But....before you add salt, make sure to test your pool level first 'k? And don't have the SWG on until that new salt is totally dissolved and mixed in for a day.

Great move. I installed mine a year ago. Easy peasy and we love our salt pool!

Only reason I knew it was low was because I tested it! 1600 ppm. I’ll add one bag first just to benchmark it and then go from there.

Folks,

Fortunately most by far of our suppliers run responsible community-friendly businesses. Just look at what many are doing to support communities and the country in the virus outbreak. But there are always a few the succumb to greed. Here's a suggestion for you. Assert yourself politely and constructively by talking to the store manager if you suspect price gouging. It's illegal in most states and even more importantly none of them want the bad press. Tell them if they don't react to your complaint to prove you are incorrect your next step will be the local paper and news station. I'm certain you will effect change very quickly. And if they don't the DA will eventually prosecute and the offenders will pay a BIG price.

Good luck!

Michigan's AG just called out Menards for price gouging and they have 10 days to answer and comply or be further investigated and possibly prosecuted.

I remember when the attorney General in Fl called out a couple of gas stations by name during the hurricanes. It was clear she wasn't playing that game
