DECIDED ON INTEX! Suggestions Wanted - Intex XTR vs "Real" AGP

Oddly enough, the pool I bought is back to $979. When I bought it the $979 was the original and it was a "rollback" to $399. I figured they were clearing out this model, and the link would go dead afterwards.

Perhaps they had some sitting in a warehouse they needed to clear out? Kind of odd.

In other news, 2 of the 3 boxes have been listed as ready for pickup. I'm waiting on that 3rd box before I head down to pick it up and see what I got!

WOW!! What a deal! Was it an Intex metal frame pool or one of the “Easy Set” pools with the ring on top? I’m jealous!
Metal prism frame.

Crazy how it fluctuates, you bought at just the right time.
That is crazy. Really lucky that you saw it when you did!

Are you planning to do anything to deter rust before setting it up? It seems rust is a hit or miss issue with these pools.

That depends on if it's the Ultra Frame or the Ultra XTR Frame (it's supposed to be the XTR). I've seen the hit or miss rusting on the Ultra Frame, but the Ultra XTR Frame coats both the inside and outside of the tubes. The Ultra Frame only had the outside of the tubes coated. My guess is this is in response to the rusting issues.

So if it's actually an XTR, I probably won't do anything, but if it's the older Ultra Frame I'd paint or otherwise coat the inside of the tubes to help prevent rust.

IT IS HERE! And it's a 26' Intex Ultra XTR, as advertised. Just one pool, in three boxes. I guess I owe @krazykrames a case of beer. Krazykrames, PM me your address and I'll mail you a Visa/MC gift card or a check, so you can buy the beer of your choice, since shipping beer is not very practical. This is the best deal ever!

Condition is meh. Tape was torn on two of the three boxes. Not unexpected on these large boxes. They never seem to use a tape that's suitably thick for the heavy boxes. I saw at least a small bag of parts thrown in loosely with the box that looks like it has the liner, which was one of the boxes the tape had broken open on, so it's pretty probable I'm missing something small. That said, contacting Intex should get me any replacement parts easily enough for free. Probably not parts I would need anyway, since I plan on doing a different filter plus skimmer and hard piping, but I would at least like to set it up stock and fill it to verify it's defect free before voiding the warranty by cutting a giant hole for the skimmer and/or extra returns...

Box 1 of 3 says item #28951W, 2 of 3 says #28952W, and 3 of 3 says #28953W. So it appears not only is it the Ultra Frame, but all three boxes indeed are for the same pool model.

They are in a friend's garage right now. Sometime after we close on the 24th we'll bring them to our garage, probably the weekend of the 1st when we're doing the main chunk of our move. Once we settle in a bit I'll open the boxes up in the garage and check for damage and/or missing parts so I can get anything obvious replaced before spring gets here.

The Walmart guy was like "A pool!? Why are you getting a pool in January?" I told him it was because it went on sale for $400 and was normally $1000 or more, and suddenly it made sense to him. :D Still, as we were loading it into the truck with a temp of 16 °F and 36 MPH wind gusts I was not thinking pool thoughts! ?

we had an ultra frame 24ft intex that we used with salt water and the frame would only last 2 summers and the metal corroded you could literally push on it and your finger would go through the metal be careful if using the salt water and if you do need to replace a part from intex it is a pain in the well every part... and not sure if it was the salt water or us just not knowing what we were doing the liner would be completely white and bleached out after the first year

I've seen a lot of people have rust here, with and without saltwater.

The Ultra XTR, unlike all previous models (including the unrelated Ultra Frame), is painted or powder coated both inside and outside of the tubes. So hopefully it lasts a lot longer.

Intex warranties it for two years, unlike all prior models that were only warrantied for 90 days. At the price I got it I certainly won't cry if it only lasts two years though.

Liner bleaching I'm not too suprised. My Intex hot tub did the same thing. Although curiously the times I drained it the color came back until the next time we filled it...

YOu did better then I did I ordered on Walmart a 22' Ultra frame XTR for $205 marked down from $257, (571444331) all I got was box 2 of 3 (the entire frame, pool cover and ladder, no liner or pump.... Walmart says that all that item comes with and Intex needs a model number on the pool liner to know which liner to send me so I am in a catch 22.

I would also suggest getting someone to come out and get a quote to install, survey your yard to make sure you CAN put a permanent pool in. My girlfriend was going to do the same and she has a HUGE backyard. Turns out, because of underground pipes, electrical lines, etc..she couldn't put a permanent AGP anywhere in her yard. The price in the advertisement is NEVER what you pay in the end, even if building yourself. For one, they're going to talk you into upgrading equipment. Also, not sure anyone mentioned it, but the cost of the pool isn't going to be the only cost. You're going to have to get build permits to build the hard wall pool, might have to have some electrical work done, might have to pay for a yearly permit to even have it (like in my city) or have to added it to your homeowners insurance, even if you're building the pool yourself. Your town might require you to add a self closing, lockable fence, Intex or hardwall, upgrade your pool entry to one that is lockable, etc.

Just the statistical odds of the metal walled pool lasting several times longer. Chances are you will only do it once instead of 3 or 4 times.

Definitely get quotes for the deck before hand. Lumber is expensive and if you are paying somebody to do it, very labor intensive and time consuming. We set out to do a ABG with a wrap around deck and the deck and fence put us into the IG pool price range and I refused to spend $18-$20k on an ABG project. We literally went out to buy a $3k pool. Which we upgraded to bigger pool for $6k including installation. Which turned into almost $20k including the deck and fence. So i decided to spend said $20k on a IG pool Which we upgraded to a bigger, better equiptment, heated, salt $36k pool, which still needed a patio and a fence. Which is how i blew $60k on my $3k pool project. But i'll never have to replace it so i have that going for me, which is nice.
I just wanted to say that your post cracked me up. Because we have been going through the Exact. Same. Thought process. Lol.
