Help a newbie with proposal comparison?

The filter is one size below the largest they have which is the 520.. The 420 will work just fine.

You do not want an IC60 with the external power center... You want the IntelliCenter that comes with the internal SWCG power supply.

The pump is the Gold Standard of pool pumps.

@Jimrahbe thank you. I asked the PB about this and he said the IC60 can be used directly with the Intelli system. However the intelli system only comes with a IC40. So an upgraded chip is needed. Does that sound right? I admit I don't understand.

I would get the MicroBrite lights instead of the GloBrite lights. The GloBrite lights are in a proprietary housing and do not have a good reliability record. With the GloBrites you will be stuck with expensive replacements for the life of the pool.

This is what you need.. Pentair IntelliCenter i8PSIC60 Kit - Pool and Spa with Load Center and IC60

Pentair may not sell this directly, but have your Pool builder talk to polytechpools..

If I were in your shoes I would do one of two things.. Buy the IntelliCenter with built-in SWCG power supply with the IC40, if that is the only one your pool builder can get.. Worse thing that will happen will be you will have to run the cell at a higher output and the cell will not last quite as long. When it does go bad, you can simply replace the IC40 cell with the IC60 cell.. Just the cell not the whole thing..

or

Get your pool builder to buy the package of IntelliCenter and IC60 from Polytech.

If you have an external power supply it is just an extra box to mount some where, plus the external power supply has to be wired into the IntelliCenter for it to work properly.

Unfortunately, buying Pentair from a Jandy guy means he does not really understand what he is doing..

The world will not end if you end up with the external power supply, but now is the time to fix it if you can..

This is from someone who hasnt a clue about designing a pool...when I say not a clue, I mean not a clue. From the recent picture you posted with the tanning ledge, I would think it would get more use if the tanning ledge was next to the house, instead of on the far side of the pool. I just think it wont get near as much use if its inconveniently located on the far side. But thats just me.

@carnivalday I'm actually the one who designed it that way and it was intentional (but potentially misguided). We are trying to preserve yard space while maximizing decking near our house. If we moved the tanning ledge to the other side it would eat up precious decking space and we'd need to move the whole deal further back. This way we can at least preserve some grassy area on either side of the tanning ledge. I get it though. I think it will still get lots of use but I am as green as they come and may be wrong.

The main thing is that you THOUGHT about it and came up with very good reasons for how you did it. Some people don't or can't think of different ways to do things. @carnivalday is very good at looking at a design and throwing out ideas that are different AND giving solid reasons for what she is thinking. This is what TFP is about............giving good ideas and reasons for doing something to get everyone an outside idea just in case they had not thought of the other way to do it.

We have thought about it so much but truly have little confidence in our ability to design, so all constructive criticism is welcome! The problem is we've got to sign today or tomorrow or we're going to miss our construction window and winter discounts, so it pretty much is what it is design wise at this point. Appreciate all the input!
