First test results - not a total newbie but feel like it.

SO, I ve been on TFP for a while but haven't needed help of late. We had an above ground at our old house that once I got in the groove, literally put 10 oz of Chlorine in a day (sometimes more in the AZ summer), and a bit of CYA once in awhile and it stayed perfect all year long. TFP was awesome.

NOW, we bought a new build house and had a 16K gallon play pool installed (see pic) since we were starting from scratch. Just completed last week and had orientation on Friday. I did not want to start messing with care until after that process to make sure I would not void any warranty. The builder just threw some tablets in and since it has been a bit cold/rainy here until today, water has been fine.

Finally tested yesterday (TFP-100 kit), Here are the total results:

FC - 8.5, TC, 8.5, PH 7.6, CH (unable to perform -chemical in kit defective bottle and all leaked out), TA - 60, CYA 54, Water Temp 54.

My QUESTIONS besides comments on the test results are along the line of how to determine amount of Chlorine and CYA I will need to begin with per day etc. - it has been awhile since I did everything from scratch basically. I can't seem to locate any posts explaining how much Chlorine to add if needed....is it just a hit and miss in the beginning? O

This will also help me in how much chemical to buy/store etc.

Basically if I can be pointed in the right direction again - I understand the chemistry and have pool math loaded etc. - does pool math app tell me how much to add IF needed only - and since mine was within acceptable ranges it didn't make suggestions?

Your test results are fine. CYA is 60. You cannot measure a 54 with the vial provided.

The app will provide ranges to fall in. Up to you to manage your levels. I assume you will be adding liquid chlorine daily once March arrives. So after you test you input your data and follow the app on how much liquid chlorine to add to reach your target range.

Can you ballpark me at all on how much Chlorine I am likely to go through here with the new pool? I stock up when I can so I don't have to run to get it all the time.....especially when Home depot gives bulk pricing - just paid 3.08 per gallon yesterday which is not bad.

In your area I would suspect you will need 3-4 ppm FC per day with a CYA of 50 ppm. I would suggest discontinuing use of solid chlorine at this time.

So about a half gallon of 10% liquid chlorine per day. More in June, July, and August. The usage will ramp up starting in mid-February. So keep an eye on things.

Have you considered adding a SaltWater Chlorine Generator? Makes life a lot easier as it creates your chlorine for you.
