Well I am going to tell you that one of my nicknames is The Bling Queen so....................you can NEVER have too much BLING! LOL That is some pretty tile up there! I love the 1x2 tiles! That is a very pretty color and just the right amount of BLING!

Glad to hear you got to sit down with them and they came through for you. Now PLEASE tell me you got all of that in writing!

Yes we got everything updated on the estimate and should be good to go! Thanks for all of the help so far. I will keep posting through the build process. I’m sure I will need help on the water balance as well and have been reading up on that in preparation.
 
IMG_3354.jpgThey showed up to form the pool for digging. They are wanting to get gunite done on Friday but I think all of this rain will set them back a bit. There are only two gunite companies locally and they close for the holidays starting 12/18-1/2/2020 so they are trying to beat that deadline for gunite.

I am a very thorough person and have brought attention to some pitfalls in their estimation software so far. My wife caught an error when they were starting to dig and got it corrected. When I got home from work I went out and measured everything and found they had made another mistake and have to reform the pool again to match the drawing we agreed on. :rolleyes: The current form was cutting my spa down to a 6'x 4' and the pool needs to be pushed 2' further away from the patio. They will be reforming again tomorrow weather permitting. I'm hoping this isn't a bad sign for the processes to come. lol
 
Glad you are staying on top of the contractors. Keep a close eye on what happens on your Equipment Pad also.
 
SIGH................And THIS is why I say "trust yet reify"!!! Good job! Here is hoping the trades talk and tell each other "He will check your work so do it right the first time"!

Yea, I installed a camera on the patio the day before the showed up so I could keep tabs on what is going on and also since my backyard is open to public during the build. I am hoping they plan on minimizing 90 degree fittings and use sweeping 90 degree fittings when possible. It sounded like that is the case when talking to the project manager.

Side note --- I asked about a bypass for the heater so water with a high PH is not running through it during the startup process. He stated it will have a check valve. Is that going to accomplish the same thing as long as the heater is not on?

No, water is flowing through the heater core all the time whether heater is on or off.

You also want the heater bypass so you can take the heater offline, out of the water flow, for maintenance if it gets a leak. Otherwise your pump and water circulation will be off until the heater is repaired.

A bypass just takes a 3 way diverter valve and some PVC along with the check valve. It should not be a big deal.

What heater are you getting?

That is how I thought the plumbing would work. I will push to get a bypass. I like the idea of servicing the heater without shutting down the entire system. It will be the Mastertemp 400 heater.

The got the digging done on Wednesday, finished the rebar and plumbing on Thursday and shot the gunite this morning! They are rolling right along and plan on tile and coping next week

I wasn't home for the majority of the gunite install but luckily my In-house Supervisor was home to keep an eye on things. lol

We did have an issue with the PB only putting in two steps for us to get into the pool even when there was 3 on the drawing and with a depth of 4'!:mad: The PB told the gunite guy to just put one more step even though it would be at least an 18" drop! Luckily the gunite guy was super nice and put in two more steps to make it correct and even added a corner step to get out of the spa easier.

I also asked again about the heater bypass and he was dismissive and said the check valve would take care of that. I am going to have a face to face conversation and tell him that is what I want one way or another.

SWEET! Glad they did what was right! SIGH on the PB...................TWO steps?? REALLY?? Oh wait add one more............WHAT? SO glad the gunite guy knew what needed to be done to make the steps like they should be AND the step in the spa. Nice to see there are people who know what needs to be done and DOES IT!

Thanks for all of the links. I have read the majority of them multiple times. lol I'm a researcher by nature. Started watering the gunite yesterday and we are expecting rain Monday so we will see when the tile begins. I'm hoping tile and coping will be complete this week.
