OMG, this is a problem....
Here's what happened....
Last week went to pressure wash my pool lanai cage screens... pressure wash broken so I go this stuff "30 second outdoor cleaner concentrate" at home depot. Says OK around pools. Still not to try and get in. Anyway, blanket was covering pool and I only cleaned the walls, rinsed best as possible (I thought). Then it rained off and on for couple days. Took pool blanket off and the foam started to form... a little bit at first, guess some of the stuff got in pool, obviously.

The main ingredient in the 30 second outdoor cleaner is sodium hypochlorite.... plus some "powdered soaps" (ugh) and "surfectants" (also ugh). I call the company and they emails the sds which is attached... but not exact list of whats in it.

I though, ok, soap must mean phosphates... I had a liter or quart bottle of PhosFree. So I used 3/4 bottle of that (I have 17000 gal swg pool and have been maintaining chemistry was fine until this). I also smelled the extra chlorine, and it was measuring out of range. I have thiosulfate crystals which I bought on line. I know this is very hard to control and a little bit goes a long was. First I put in 2 tbsp... then I added about 1/2 cup of that...... Stupidly, I also saw a bit of yellowish looking debris or coloration on the steps, so I poured some algecide in over the steps.... (about 1/2 cup). I'm embarrased to admit that I did this, while trying to resolve another problem, but figure you guys can't help me if I don't fully disclose my lack of restraint when trying to solve all at once.

Any-hoo.....yesterday was a little foamy.... kept pump running over night with the blanket remaining OFF. Here's what I woke up to! I skimmed it all off once, but it keeps coming back. HHHHEEELLLPPP! I feel like Lucille Ball in the washing machine episode.... another fine mess I've gotten myself into!

I would stop adding anything else at the moment other than maintaining your proper FC level with chlorine. The soap & by-products in the cleaners are doing that. It will go away but may take some time. Be patient and let the regular chlorine (regular bleach) do it's thing.

I see you have a SWG, so no worries about chlorine. The smell you notice is probably the residual CCs being expelled from the water. Just let the chlorine and sun work on that foam.

Thanks for the note. This is freaking me out and I'm a "doer"not a "waiter"... but I will be patient.... should I keep the pool constantly running do you think? That is what creates the foam...when water coming into pool that sets up the foaming action....
