Testing pH with high FC?

While certainly lowering CYA would make things easier for the OP, that wasn’t the OP’s question.

An simple answer was provided and supported by experts here.
 
Reading that section, I believe you’ve misunderstood what it was saying. It is referring to testing pH when the sample pH is out of range of the comparator.

I understand that. But it equally applies to if you are diluting it due to high CL. Either way the pH of the sample may be changed by the dilution.
 
Out of curiosity I tested our tap water compared to tap water diluted with distilled water. Both tested at 7.5.

I am not sure what that proves other then if your pool water is pH 7.5 it may work.

It agrees with what Joyful and Chemgeek have explained; members who know far more about chemistry then I’ll ever know (and who have never steered me wrong).
