It’s not pure calcium chloride as there’s some salt in it (sodium and potassium chloride). So you’ll have to use PoolMath to calculate the dose and then double check the results with testing. Calcium chloride can get quite hot when dissolving so it’s best to dissolve smaller amounts in a bucket of water first.

I guess I’m confused about “safe”?

It’s mostly calcium chloride with a small fraction of salt in it. Any time you add liquid chlorine or muriatic acid to your pool, it adds or creates excess salt (chloride). So from a chemical perspective there seems to be nothing in that mix that you aren’t already adding to your pool anyway.

Can adding calcium chloride be “unsafe”? Sure, I suppose. If you add too much at once to a small volume of water, you can cause the water to boil from the excess heat that’s produced. If you add too much calcium too quickly to pool water you can cause your pool to become clouded from calcium carbonate scale which can potentially deposit the scale on tiles, etc. So, like all chemicals that added to pools, exercise caution and care and don’t be in a rush and you’ll likely be fine.
 
Sorry, I wasn’t so clear. This bag has additional additives besides the calcium chloride, I think it’s like 88 to 92% calcium chloride plus additional additives. Just wondering if the additives was safe to swim in? Thanks for your help!
