Pentair IntelliCenter Review and Information

IntelliCenter iOS App Update
Hi all. For those of you using Apple products....
Pentair has released a new update to the iOS App (1.7.114).
I scanned the new update. Two things to note.
1. There is a new user agreement that you have to click through first (surprise). :)
2. It appears that the "connect locally" issue has been resolved. I tested this and it does work. If your internet is down or the Pentair servers are down, the app will provide a "pop-up" that will confirm the IP address of your IntelliCenter system and ask you if you would like to connect. I clicked through and it appears to work fine.

This is all I could find that is different. I'm hoping the web-client will also allow for "local" connectivity some time in the very near future.

Any chance you've looking into programming a heater bypass?

On the current ET/IT offerings only a valve can be assigned to the circuit function "Either Heater". There really isn't a way for the heat demand to activate a relay and a valve. The last time I looked at the IC manual it appeared the Aux and feature circuits were identical to what's available now on the ET/IT's.

I already have my heater bypass programmed.
If I think I understand what you are asking.
Normally, my heater bypass is open (water bypassing the heater).
If I activate my "SPA" CIRCUIT GROUP (macro).
One of the several things that occur then, is that the IntelliValve on the heater bypass 3-way valve closes the heater bypass and the water is now allowed to flow through the heater.

Off topic but the other things that occur when the "SPA" CIRCUIT GROUP is activated are:
Pool/Spa intake valve closes to pool and fully opens to spa.
Pool/Spa return valve closes to pool and fully opens to spa.
Heater is energized.
Filter pump is energized at the pre-set SPA RPM.
Once all of that happens, then I just wait until the spa temp is about 102, grab an adult bev (yea, i know. that's a no no ?) and then I activate the Spa Jet Pump Feature Circuit from my mobile app and I'm in business.....

Did I answer your question regarding the heater bypass valve?

So your heater has no power to it until there is a demand for heat or you're saying that the panel just activates the heater?
I just have a low-end gas heater. Nothing fancy. Once there is a demand from the automation (activation of the FEATURE CIRCUIT) , the automation closes the 24vac control circuit which is wired to the Firemans Switch at the heater.

Ah ok it's the same as any other heater then. What I'm trying to do and set up a heater bypass so that the only time the heater has power is when the bypass is closed. Is that something you think you can do?

It's always bothered me that the heater receives constant power when it is rarely used and with it having power, there is a potential that the pressure switch could somehow accidentally get activated.

In full disclosure, my electrical rates are stupid insane and I try not to have things on that don't need to be....that and the....uhhh....safety stuff.
 
Okay. Sorry I misunderstood. Electrical "bypass" (thought you were asking about the heater "water" bypass). :)
If you have an extra relay, could you not run a jumper from the load side of the pump relay to the line side of another relay and then just create a feature circuit for that aux relay.
I think the IT has macros and so you could just add that feature circuit that controls the relay to the SPA macro. I don't think the ET has macros however.
I'm pretty sure I can do this with the IntelliCenter.
Yea, good point about the power at least being delivered to the heater, but is it not true that it's not actually drawing any amps until the firemans switch is closed?

EDIT. I do have a spare relay and could fairly easily run a couple of jumpers and then create a feature circuit and then embed within my spa macro and see what happens.

A macro would work for the spa but the trouble would be is if you wanted to heat the pool and you're at Costco picking up 15 pizzas for the pool party your wife sprung on you ...

The ET doesn't have macros but the IT does.

I'm sure the amperage draw is minimal even when the heater is running but as I said before my rates are stupid and every little bit makes a big difference.

Just keeping my printer off instead of in standby allows me to take the family out to dinner at a nice restaurant every month?

Okay, but if you're using an IT or IC, all you would have to do is create a "POOL HEAT" macro.
The only time that the heater aux circuit is energized is when the SPA macro or the POOL HEAT macro is activated because the heater feature circuit is only embedded within those two macros.
 
But imagine you were female and I was married to you and you had a phone with an app on it and you wanted to push one button to make whatever it is you want to do happen....

And it had to make complete sense to you....

No problem. Hey honey, just push the radio button that says" POOL HEAT". Of course, there will be other feature circuits embedded within that macro besides the heater FC, like the pump FC and any valve configs that have to happen right?

Yea, please let me know how that works out. I'm thinking about doing the same with that extra relay that I have. Kind of a cool idea.

So I thought I would try out your idea of wiring the line voltage for the heater to the load side of a relay and then installing a jumper from the pump relay load side to the line side of the new HEAT relay.
Then I just added that new AUX Circuit to my SPA macro. Yep, worked good. I could create another macro named POOL HEAT and do the same thing minus the suction/return valve actions for the spa. I won't though because my little 100k BTU spa heater would never make it. ?
Here is a screenshot of the macro.
I like the fact that there is no power being delivered on the heater 220Vac line unless the new HEAT Relay is energized.

Awesome. I'm not sure why I didn't think of using a macro... maybe it's because I was raised on an Easytouch. Good to know it works?

Also, I took note of your suggestion in your thread Heater Bypass Data, regarding flushing the stagnant water from the heater on occasion. I created a macro (CIRCUIT GROUP in IntelliCenter lingo) named "FLUSH". I then created a schedule to run the "FLUSH" macro every Sunday for 5 minutes.

I'm only assuming that once a week should be sufficient. I'm also assuming that an added benefit is the exercise of that heater bypass valve on a regular basis.
