If it was algae or something clogging the sand I would expect filter pressure to rise, not drop.

MPV leaking water before it gets into filter would lower PSI.

Ok. I’ll get this taken care of and see if it stops. Odd that turning the pump off and on corrects it for a time!

Maybe the gasket is shifting with water pressure. It seals for a while and then begins leaking.

Went a week without brushing and vacuuming. I may have had some dead algae again. Since I’m going to be drawing for the new liner in the next week or so, I won’t SLAM. Before and after pic of vacuuming.

We plan to drain the pool for the liner install on our own. (Installer is giving us a small cost break to do so.) Any issues with using the pool pump for this? I was planning to use the vacuum directly into the skimmer and the side port on the pool until the water gets down close to the side port, and then move the vaccuum to the side port and pull water from there.

You risk damaging your pool pump if it runs dry during the draining.

Much better to rent a pump at HD or buy a submersible pump.

New o-ring for the MPV handle arrived. Put it in, lubed everything, no leaks. So that should be fixed. I’ll keep an eye on the water pressure and see if it drops again.

Yup, I looked at that until I saw they only had round cover versions and I also have square Hayward skimmers.

I have to imagine they might swap it out when they do a square version. If it’s accurate enough to be worth me keeping it.

Well, thats a fancy new toy. If I read the cartridge correctly, they are $50 for a 6 month supply of cartridges. How does that compare to the test kit refills?

Seems fairly similar if you only have your pool open for six months of the year or so like we do up here. However, it likely wouldn’t replace traditional test kit reagents because if I ever need to slam I would need to test more than once a day. Not to mention you likely would want to check the water manually every now and then to make sure the device is working properly.

If it works like I want, I plan to use it for my daily checks instead of the test kit reagents . But I would still want to have the reagents to make sure. I plan to save time with this, not money.
