K-1004 / SLAM / Shock Question

Hey guys,
First off I don't mean to spam this sub, I know there are a hundred "help my pool is green" posts. Hopefully 101 won't make everyone hate me.

With that being said I am trying to kill the algae in my pool with zero luck. I only own a K-1004 kit right now and I was not sure if it will help with the SLAM process or not. My PH is fine and the FC is sky high. But it obviously doesn't allow complex measurements. I have owned my pool for 4+ years now and each year I open it to a swamp. Last year I even had tad poles. My process is to balance the PH and shock the bleep out of it. Usually in 2-3 days the algae dies and settles on the bottom. Then I vacuum, clean out my cartridge a few times and swim in a week or so. This year.. ya that didn't work. I have put about 15 lbs of shock in my pool along with 6 jugs of bleach over the past week and a half (its only 12k gallons or so). My readings on FC and TC are off the charts but the algae won't die. I attempt to run my system but I am pulling my cartridge out every hour or so and thoroughly washing it. I just read on another post that the filter is worthless until it's dead though.

So my main question is can I get by with this kit or will I never be able to SLAM it? Secondly shouldn't there be some kind of point where there is SO MUCH chlorine that the algae will die regardless? My mind has been blown this year.

The kit you have is not enough. It only tests for chlorine, pH, and alkalinity... and the chlorine test does not go over 5 ppm. You will need to order a TF-100 or a K-2006. The kit you have can't even test for CYA. If your CYA is over 90 or 100 (which that powdered shock you just added put more in the pool likely)... then you will never be able to clear that algae. You need a good kit. No way around it. Sorry.
