Lowering FC Levels

Hi Folks,

I got done SLAMming my indoor pool and am having difficulty getting my chlorine levels to go back down because it gets no direct sunlight. It’s reading on the plus side of 11, no CC, and the level is remaining pretty constant.

FC. 11
CH 275
TA 100
CYA 20
pH is testing 7.2 but maybe in accurate because of high Cl

What do I do, invite 10 of my dirtiest friends over and just keep their heads out of the water??

Thanks!

Not going to hurt anything if you want to wait it out, but you can add chlorine neutralizer (sodium thiosulfate, available at any pool store) or hydrogen peroxide to the water to reduce the chlorine level. While it is above the level we would recommend swimming in it would still feel less harsh than if you had zero CYA and 3 ppm of chlorine. Your pH test should be trustworthy, although the Taylor test is only considered valid with FC below 10 if you read it within a few seconds of adding the drops then it should be reasonably accurate.

So I would not add sodium bicarb. That would raise your TA.

Add borax if you are unable to get your pH with aeration. Undershoot how much you add.

And add chlorine to get back to your target level.

Could the light at the end of the tunnel not be a train?

After much help from the experts, here are my current numbers:
PH 7.2
FC 3
CC .5
CH 300
TA 80
CYA<10

My CSI is between -.2 and -.3 for my 86 degree water temperature. If I bump my pH up a little, all other things being equal, I can get it closer to zero.

For full transparency, I am halfway through introducing Cyanuric Acid to the water according to Pool Math. After using Chlorine neutralizer to bring the chlorine down, I also used a heavy dose (4 bottles) of metal magic to whiten up my plaster from my well water. The surfaces look great. Now, the only part of the equation that needs work is the water clarity. It has some milkyness to it. I’m wondering if there is a lot of suspended particulate in the water that the fresh filter cartridges aren’t removing.

What do our experts think? And thanks for your ton of help, all of you!
