Hi All. I just discovered this forum via the BBB method video on YouTube. I have recently purchased a new (to me) home with an in-ground pool. I have not started any preparation or maintenance of the pool yet. So, I'll say hi for now and browse some of the existing threads.

Thanks
Matt

Welcome to the forum!

We now use TFPC, Trouble Free Pool Care, instead of BBB since it more accurately describes the process since most pools don't need borax or baking soda. Typically chlorine and muriatic acid are the most needed chemical additions.

I'll be sure to look that up now. I will be taking the pool cover off this weekend and start making a list of everything to get it going. The pool water is dark green and has been sitting for ~2 years like that. I hope to turn it around with the help from this forum!

Here is a link to: TFPC for Beginners.

And here is a link to: SLAM - Shock level and maintain so you can properly SLAM your green pool. All of the steps are important - no shortcuts! :)

All of which in contained in Pool School.

Feel free to start a thread in the Algae - Prevention and Treatment section of the forums to ask questions or create a chronicle of your Green to Clean transformation.

My cover is being taken off this weekend too. Next year the goal for you is for a clear mid-April opening!

Welcome!

Two thoughts:
1) Get a test kit ASAP. Beat the rush. You probably won't find a FAS-DPD test kit (Plain DPD is not the same, no matter what the salesman says) in stock at any local pool stores, so look online. I use a TF100. And no I don't get a commission. Also note that nobody who sprung for a speedstir regrets it.
2) BBB is no longer in use. It stood for bleach, baking soda, and borax. All of those chemicals have their uses, and they are cheaper (and often the same) as pool store products. However, many people thought they were a magic bullet and stockpiled baking soda and borax and/or dumped a bunch in their pool when it wasn't called for. Trouble Free Pool Care is the new name for our method.
