Good idea or bad idea: Copper Scuppers

Hello! So I asked this question in another thread of mine but didn’t get many responses as the thread was on an entirely different topic. I also searched but every thread I could find on the topic was already closed.

Hope I’m not pestering the forums gods here, but figured I’d post a new thread in hopes of getting a few more responses.

Anyway, I’ve read some articles that copper can be pretty damaging in a pool. I have five spouts / scuppers that shoot water into my pool off of a wall on the backside of the pool.

My PB suggested copper scuppers from a company called Bobe which I absolutely love the look of (especially when tarnished), but I’m worried about copper leaching into the pool and causing stains, etc. He says it’s not an issue and obviously Bobe swears by the product.

Have any of you had issues with copper scuppers? Or am I making much ado about nothing?

(PS - the one thing I did learn searching is that as long as your PH doesn’t go too low, you should be ok with copper)

I answered you on the other thread but will copy it over here as it is a very good question/concern.

When we say "no copper" in the pool we are talking about the chemicals that have copper in them. There are some algaecides that uses it as well as some of the "all in one" pucks/tablets. A lot of the time is the product has the word "blue" in the name that means it has copper in it. If you only use the chemicals we suggest in the link in my siggy below "recommended chemicals" you will be find.

The scuppers made of copper are fine to use and oh so pretty!! Like you say balanced water is the key for everything in the pool!

Thanks great feeedback Kim! Thanks for the replies. Sorry about the double post but since it said that last thread was “old” I wasn’t sure it would filter up. Every forum works a bit differently.

Think I’ll take the plunge then and do the copper!!

Hi All, so life got in the way and I never updated this thread with pics, but long story short, pool construction went well and I was very pleased with my PB. I remembered to do this as I received a message today from someone on the forums and realized I never did this. My apologies, but thanks for the help and feedback. As an FYI, I did go with the copper scuppers from Bobe...no regrets. You can see them in action in the video link.
