New build in Spring, TX.

Gunite said 0630 and they meant it.

Brisket will be ready for lunch before they leave for their next job. Put it in around 4PM yesterday and watched the neighbors cat throughout the night be confused about us taking up his midnight pooping grounds. In between circles he would stop by the smoker and lick up any juices oozing out.

Anyone have any problems with cats and pools I need to be aware of?! It’s not ours!4AA69823-FE41-46AC-92C8-AFC88C5EF23C.jpeg4AA69823-FE41-46AC-92C8-AFC88C5EF23C.jpeg

Awesome to see your dream coming to life...how exciting....and it looks like the kiddo is having one heckuva time too!

Our neighbors are having a pool put in as well and they did the dig yesterday (worked pretty late) but aren't out there as of yet (it's almost 10AM)...I think they may not be thrilled with the 20 degree weather!

Our bigger dog will *only* drink from the pool, but the smaller one can't quite reach, so he thinks he is missing out.

Jan. 28th - Dig
Jan. 29th - Steel and plumbing "stub-out"
Jan. 30th - Gunite and “DONT TOUCH THE POOL KIDS!”
Jan. 31st - early clean up, you can touch it now, began digging and laying some pipe

Currently trying to decide with PB if we want a 2HP single speed Pentair pump or a Pentair VS for main pump. We’ve always thought we’d be getting a V/S pump and they are probably a little more expensive which is why he may be bringing this up to save some cash... we want the variable speed right???

Pool is going to be roughly 25,000 gallons. Will have shade from around 2 or 3 PM until sundown here in Texas.

PB is saying, “you’ll just need to run your 2HP pump for 8 hours a day and that’s it”.

I’m not going to argue with him, I just smile and say “ok, ok, ok”.

He’s very old school and I just don’t think he also has the appreciation for the VS savings or looking at it from the consumers Point of view on this one.

He’s giving us the option of Jandy automation and Pentair pumps/equipment which I like. We are good on warranty and have a contact to help us out if we have any issues so that’s not a problem. Other option is to go Jandy for everything. I think I like the Pentair>Jandy for everything besides automation.

A VSP is nice if you can afford it and/or plan to automate your system. If you don't automate or have a lot of accessories that require automation (spa, SWG, waterfall, etc), a 2 HP is fine. But make sure it's a 2-speed. Definately NO single speed.

Good to see your pool progressing so fast. Restores my faith that there are still some legitimate PBs out there.

Ours took 6mos and was a nightmare.

Unfortunately PBs are not required to be licensed in our area and any Joe off the street can decide to one day become a pool builder!

6 months?! Please tell me it completed with some swim season left?!

It’s moving right along. Equipment has been delivered and is here. Told him to swap out the one speed with a VS and I’m happy we did it. We may be paying the difference but it’ll save us some money in the long run and pay for the upgrade in the first year I bet (hope). Electricity isn’t getting any cheaper and this is important.

Will post many pictures tonight from computer where I can easily resize them.

Winter came before we could enjoy it. Kids are chomping at the bit and so I caved in and heated it twice. VS pump is nice. We have same one. It is super quiet and have t noticed a dent on electric bill yet.

16,000 gallon pool heated to 95 degrees for two weekends cost us about $100. Our bill right now is typically $60 to $70 during winter and went up to $170 this month.

Ok folks, somewhat backtracking with pictures, but update on overall...

Jan. 28th - Dig
Jan. 29th - Steel and plumbing "stub-out"
Jan. 30th - Gunite and “DONT TOUCH THE POOL KIDS!”
Jan. 31st - early clean up, you can touch it now, began digging and laying some pipe
Feb. 1st - Plumbing, gas lines, conduit

Trenches have been dug, pipe has been laid. Looks like they are currently putting all the pieces together. Equipment was delivered today and you can see in some of the posts above that PB wanted to install a SINGLE speed, 2HP pump for our main and we had him swap it out with a variable speed. We will pay the extra cash up front to reap the savings later. These guys worked all day in the lame rain and the sun finally came out around 2PM and they seemed to get a little more pep in their step along with the fact they are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the work on our pools. We also told them pizza was on the way which will make anyone perk up a little. Pressure test will be today or tomorrow.

We finalized our tile/stone/coping. From the get-go we told PB we wanted the 2" flagstone, not the thin stuff. Got a little push-back from him when we repeated 2" obviously because it will cost him a little more money, but we aren't budging on this one, nor paying the difference. This should begin next week pending weather. Crew in spa.jpg

Do you have the decking in the yard yet to check? They might try to pull one over on you.........sure hope not but....trust yet verify!!

Kim:kim:

I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying here...forgive my "noob" lack knowledge/terminology here...:(

They have NOT done any decking or marking of decking for meeting with pavers or around pool yet, if that helps?

I am asking if the stone for the decking is there yet? It will be in large crates that a machine will have lift/move. When it gets there you will want to look through it and make sure it is what you want and look for any that might not fix your look.
