Hey Guys,

I'm a little late at starting this thread, but better late than never...

20' x 40' pool (approx 20,000 gallons) with a 8' x 8' spa. 3' - 5.5' deep. White Pebble Sheen finish, blue glass tiles and ivory travertine coping and French pattern pavers. Bronze cage.

-Jandy VS PLUSHP Pump
-4 returns in pool, 2 returns in spa, 8 jets in spa
-Jandy RS Control System (PS4) w/ iAquaLink
-Jandy PLC1400 Salt Gen
-Jandy JXI400N Heater
-Jandy DEV60 DE Filter
-Jandy 2HP Spa Blower
-2 skimmers
-Overflow
-Autofill (Jandy Levolor)
-2 Spectrum 360 Color Changing Pool Lights
-1 Spectrum 360 Color Changing Spa Light
-3" Deck Drain w/ Removable Grates


We had our pool dug and gunite shot about 2 weeks ago. A couple issues along the way that have slowed us down, but should be getting tile in a little more than a week from now.

I noticed the rebar for the spa bond beam was the same height as the pool bond beam... Even though the spa is supposed to be slightly 'sunken'.

After closer inspection I could see rebar burning through the top of the spa bond beam. I've had rebar leach and stain a previous pool, so I didn't want that again. The PB agreed to cut down the 6" of gunite around the inside spa edges, leave the existing vertical rebar, reform it and shoot with gunite again.

Smart move on having them redo that part! Live and learn at it's finest!

What kind of fence will you be putting around that wonderful pool? Looks like you are in a brand new community! What fun to watch it grow up around you!

Do you have your test kit yet? If not now is the time to get it. Ask your PB what kit he is providing. He might surprise us and give a good one. LOL

No fence right now, but we will be installing a bronze screened enclosure around the pool. Way too many bugs to not have one here!!
Yep, we are in a brand new sub division. Moved in about 2 months ago and we were one of the first houses on the street. It is very cool to see all the construction, but I also wouldn't mind it moving a few blocks down :). I knew what I signed up for when I bought though...

No test kit yet. Seems the TF-100 is the kit by which others are measured around here. I suppose I have some reading to do as it has not been almost 10 years since I maintained my last pool...

Here is a quick picture of the tile and pool finish (bottom sample) colors we picked. The tile will be used throughout the pool and spa.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that tile and all of your picks!!

Now think about what color of mastic to put under that tile. Get your hands on a sample of that tile without it attached to anything like paper. Get some paint cards-white, off white, light gray, middle gray. Take this out to the pool and see which color you like under your tile the best.

THEN get your hands on some grout sticks. They come in many colors. White will make each tile stand out. Gray will help them blend in with each other better. Both are pretty. It is just how you want the overall look to be.

Looking great! Is that conservation land behind you? My sister is in a Wesley Chapel neighborhood and has almost an identical view of pond and forest through her screen house.

Ahh yep, Wesley Chapel is about 15 mins east of us. That is Starkey Wilderness Preserve behind us. 18,000 acres. We used to get these guys almost everyday when we first moved in, but I think all the construction has made them a bit skiddish.

Hey wakerider, who is doing your pool? And what color pebble sheen did you end up picking? Looks like youre at the very northwest portion of the ranch. I could be wrong though. Havent been through there in a few months. We typically visit the champions club in Trinity once a week to check the process on all the super fancy shmancy mansions that are being built to get ideas.

Tampa Bay Pools is doing the build. Coincidentally the are the same PB that our home builder uses if you buy a pool through them. We are pretty far NW in the Ranch. Couple new neighborhoods just being cleared west of us though.

The bottom sample is my Pebble Sheen choice. It was the standard included finish from Tampa Bay Pools. Kinda looks like an Arctic White with turquoise glass in it.


Tile, coping and plumbing supposed to start late this week.

A lot has happened in the past week...

Plumbing is in and equipment is set.
Footers for the screen enclosure have been dug and formed.
The pool and spa beams have been leveled, glass tiles laid and grouted.
Travertine coping has been installed and grouted.

I'm really happy with the way the tile came out. Especially around the spa. Everything lines up so nicely and I'm an OCD perfectionist, so that is saying something!

I do see an abundance of red ball valves in your pad plumbing. They are not the best for outdoor scenarios as the handles become brittle easily and they tend to get tight. Generally Jandy Neverlube's or equivalent, like they have for the three-way valves, are your best bet. I see it as a bit of a quality skimp.

Those may be a repairable type if they have a union, which would help the situation should they need repaired.

Yeah, they all have unions for future repairability. I actually asked about using 2-way Neverlube's prior to starting, but they wanted like $500 as an upgrade... The wife nixed that one real quick. Gotta pick your battles.
