PB has "discovered" slight slope in yard.. After the dig..

So, dig was earlier this week. Yesterday the site supervisor told me that there was a problem because the lot slopes (this is Florida, not Tennesee, so the elevation difference is in inches, not feet) towards the house. In addition to the fact that the lot was available for inspection throughout the bid, the new survey we provided included elevations. I suspect the PB is going to ask me for extra dollars to grade the yard or deal with it in some other way. I am not inclined to do so. Meeting is this afternoon. (One other note - we went with the "we're expensive but we're worth it", great reputation, "you won't have any surprises" PB, just so we wouldn't end up in this kind of situation).

Step #1 of every pool build is to measure the elevation changes. In fact it should be done during the bid phase. It takes minutes to shoot several spots to understand the situation. There is no such thing as a flat yard. This is a big red flag that these guys are clueless or trying to rip you off. I am hopeful they aren’t asking for more money, but are just going to review your options such as bringing in fill dirt versus leaving part of pool above grade/ground level.

They haven't asked for more money - yet. And may not, since I made it pretty clear during the phone conversation that that was a non-starter. I expect they are going to present some options today. My GC (who is also a trusted friend) will be at the meeting so that I have an unbiased assessment of the options presented. The PB owner is coming, probably to see the situation for himself. Sounds like the opinion here is similar to mine - they will need to figure it out and make it right.
I may be fretting over nothing - the PB does have a great reputation, and making this kind of thing right is how that reputation got built. I hope.

Let's see what they say first. My yard was ridiculous the elevation was just shy of needing a retaining wall, and probably should have had one. I don't think "inches" adds anything at all to the builder's costs. They will be taking a lot of dirt out of a giant hole (lol). This dirt should easily level a few inch elevation issue.

+1 - my yard was off by 2 feet from end to end and this didn't drive the cost of the pool at all. We opted to add a small retaining wall (we negotiated this for free) but we could have graded most of the difference anyway since it's over a larger area.

All's well the ends well - PB will move some dirt around. No extra cost.
