First Test, Suggestions?

Would not hurt. Have them do it in the evening so the chlorine can work overnight without UV degradation.

Sorry you had issues with the 5mL test. I hadn't tested with 10mL since I got the syringe, but after reading you had an issue, I decided to test it both ways.

Came up with 6 drops at 5mL and 11 with 10mL. Maybe at your high FC things get whacky?? When adding the powder with 5mL, I barely use any. The scoop is full, but flat across the top.

Tested 20m ago.

FC: 21
CC: 1.5

Added 56 oz of 6% bleach to bring it to 24ppm. (Keeping a thread log for future newbies like me :D )

Not a problem. I couldn't find my syringe and used a graduated dosing cup. I don't think it was accurate. Tonight's test looked good so I'll cross the two measurements last night off as a fluke. My understanding is that as long as the sample changes color, it doesn't matter what volume of powder is added.

You can. Test your CYA when you return and adjust your SLAM level FC accordingly.

Any suggestion on how to load it when it is running 24/7? My tabs are 99% Trichlor.

Load the chlorinator? Turn the pump off I guess, I do not have one! I would think two or at most three pucks is all you want to use.

Afternoon Test 2:

FC: 17
CC: 1

Adding 81 fl oz of 10% bleach to bring to 24ppm. Adding pucks and hoping it doesn't fall to 0 before Monday.

Any comment on my massive FC loss? Just direct sun? I'll be pouring in a gallon of bleach every day until Fall if that's the case.

Your FC loss is some to the sun but mostly it is consuming algae / organics. It should slow down after you get back and get things back on track.
