Fired our pool builder today, hopefully not making a mistake

I certainly don't know anything about using multiple SWGs with a pool, but if you are using one SWG with the Easytouch and the second with the standard power supply, would you not be able to adjust the percentages on both to match?

Jim,

Yes, you could, but the whole point of automation is not having to go out to your equipment pad to adjust something. You would not have to run the independent one at 100% but you would want it to be doing more than half the work, so that you could adjust the one connected to the ET up and down via ScreenLogic to fine tune the chlorine levels in the pool.

What is the general lifespan of these generator, if I remember correctly that was one of the down side to them that my builder had mentioned that they would only last a few years.

cs,

The cost to chlorinate your pool is about the same no matter what you use. In the case of the SWCG, you are buying all the chlorine up front when you buy the cell. I agree with PoolGate 5 to 7 years would be normal. A lot of people get much more and some get way less, but life span really depends on the size of the cell vs. the size of the pool. Kind of like driving a car... One tank of gas will only get you so far, but the same trip can take a day, or months, depending on how far you drive each day.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I get that with the automation, my thought would just be to maximize or somewhat attempt to synchronize the lifespans

Yes I believe up to 60k gallons rated and usually you want to double the pool size for correct sizing or the SWCG will be on 24 hours a day. 50kx2=100k so 2 x IC60 I think would be what you would use.

Keep in mind that saltwater pools have 10% the salinity level as the ocean (3.5ppt vs 35ppt) and less than twice as much salt as a standard pool. Most people cannot taste the salt in a saltwater pool. Everything you add has salt so no pool is salt-free once it has been running for awhile. Almost everything you hear about decks dissolving and everything within 10 miles of a saltwater pool rusting are myths. No modern pool should be without a saltwater chlorine generator. There are just no negatives at all.

240k babay!!

Just swap the cables every six months, or three, or twelve (however close you want them to be sync'd), and update (swap) the settings. So #1 will run 100% for 6 months, and #2 will be set to produce the proper FC level. Then after the swap, you set #2 to run 100% and #1 to produce the proper FC level, etc.

Though it will be more trouble than it's worth. Seasons and bather load will come into play. No matter how you fine-tune that MO, one will go first, and the replacement will then be out of sync. Just let #1 run at 100% until it dies, while #2 is the FC "leveler." Then run #2 at 100%, while #3 becomes the FC "leveler." Or whatever scheme makes sense for you. It really doesn't matter. They're going to run until they don't. You're not going to extend how much total chlorine they produce, no matter what scheme you try. You'd only be messing with how and when they get replaced. Swapping and syncing will just be an added chore that doesn't reap any real benefit...

From an economics standpoint, I would consider using a Circupool or other stand alone SWCG for the one not being controlled by the ET and the IC60 for the one controlled by the ET.

Just a thought ----

Oh, yah. Scratch swapping and syncing. Marty's got the better solution.

While Marty has plenty of good ideas most of the time.. I'm not so sure in this case.. :poke:

If this were my pool, and I and was rich enough to afford two SWCGs, I think I would buy two identical units.. Later in life, if something goes wrong, it would be great to be able to swap parts as a troubleshooting tool.. And I like the idea of just being able to swap the cell connectors between the two power supplies..

Thanks,

Jim R.

If you can program an irrigation timer, you can set up your ET!

Truth be told, I can't figure out those stupid irrigation timers, and I was still able to set up my ET. ;)

cs,

It is easier with ScreenLogic because you can "see" how Circuits, Circuit Names, and Circuit Functions all relate to one another all on one page. It is not hard, just sometimes confusing, because the instructions are written in "Pentair" instead of English.. :p

As Dirk says... he did it so how hard can it be??? :poke:

Well, I left out the part that I relied heavily on Jim to help me straighten out my ET. So this monkey did have a trainer! Who I have now just volunteered to help Creativestyle. Poke me, will ya!? Take that!! ;)

Jim... I'll deal with you later!! :shark:

Well here a little update on the pool, with one interesting twist. But not entirely unexpected. Pool finished, will get picks posted soon. currently full and going through the start up cycle. I’m finishing a pergola and outdoor bathroom this weekend hopefully. Found some great crews to finish the build thanks to a great plaster company recommendation. If anybody in the Houston area is looking for some independent contractor’s pm meThe interesting part is that the dig and steel company came to the door looking for the builder, apparently they werenever paid. I gave the checks to the builder and he cashed them, so I gave them copies of the invoices and checks paying the invoices and told them I would help them anyway I could, I even messaged him several times, and as a little jab for jerking is around I gave them the builders home address. We’ll see how this plays out. They crew texted me and said he promises to pay tomorrow. For some reason I don’t see that happening, just like my coping would always be started tomorrow for 2 straight weeks lol.
