This thread is awesome...i am getting ready to try this. I have a 16"x48" Intex ultra frame. I found a brand new 15x52 beaded replacement liner and am getting ready to give it a try. Anyone have an opinion on whether the 15" will fit inside the 16' frame. All my friends say it will stretch with the water weight. I think it will too.....Ill keep the forum inforumed

Hmmm. I know the overlap liners allow for this, not so sure about the beaded. Will follow with interest!
I have been reading through the threads here and made my decision to buy a new liner better. After 4 years of use my 16x48 has developed a number of pin hole leaks (too many to patch) so I am going to put the new overlap liner in.
One question I have seen a number of comments about not being able to line up the holes gin the next year. I do not have a choice up here in Upstate New York we get at least 142 Inches of snow and bitter cold temps so I have to drain and store. What I was wondering is after the water has pulled the liner down enough to stretch it before I cut the holes what about putting the vinyl adhesive on the wall to have it attach there? The other option would be to leave my suction and discharge units attached so the liner was secured to the old pool?

I am so thankful for this forum! We have an intex ultra 20 ft x 54 in pool & it has developed a leak in the seam which patching, Flex Seal tape, flex seal spray...nothing works! So after reading this fabulous thread I ordered an overlap liner - I can’t wait for it to get here!!!

I live in upstate NY too but leave the pool up year round! It's been fine for 3 years, but a nephew through some bricks in it from around the filter and put a hole in it.

I am going to try this my question how or to what is the string attached to on the bottom the one in the image attached to the grommet what did you secure it too? I see it is all the way to bottom
I have an Intex 18'x48' pool that I just set up yesterday and unfortunately got a 5 inch tear near the bottom seam. I patched it with flex seal tape, a piece on the inside and one on the outside (this worked great last year for smaller holes closer to the top). So far it is holding, but am pretty worried that it will get more as the liner is on it's 5th year and I use saltwater.

I didn't tape mine, but I got the heaviest gauge overlap liner I could find, doubled it over on itself trapping a run of paracord for the tarp clamps to hold to in the fold.

I would be concerned with the length of the rip that you are expecting the flextape to hold together though, and would be seriously looking at a new pool, or liner.

that is the highest pressure, most stressful part of the pool. as impressed as I am with those flexseal products and as willing as I am to "ranch-rig" most things in my life, I don't think I would rely on it for a 5 inch tear near the bottom of a pool. maybe tons of it and with a liner too, but you are entering the realm of spending more to repair than replace.

I decided to be bold and take one for the better good of all other intex pool owners, I bought the 18'x52" liner to give it a try and hopefully prevailmy hope is that I will have enough over hang to secure the tarp clips, I will try this later on today and report back to all!
I have less than a one inch tear but it’s just under the seam at the bottom of the pool. Just covered it on the outside and inside with flex seal tape. The pool had been drained while we re leveled and had about 2 inches of water in it when I noticed the leak. Let’s hope this holds, year 4 with the pool, and maybe replacement liners will be in stock later this year or just a whole new pool ?
Hoping folks still monitor this thread. I have a Summerwaves 16x48 with a tear. Planned to follow this thread, and bought the tarp clips, paracord, and replacement liner. But.. the liner is 18x48 and my abg is 16x48. My bad for misreading. Should I try the larger liner, or send back and wait for the right size to be back in stock?
Are you sure you can return it? I just bought mine and it said no returns. If you can't return, I would give it a shot. Keep posting and let us know how it goes. I will post mine as well. Excellent thread! THANK YOU to everyone that has contributed over the last few years!
Hi, I'm thinking of doing this mod unless I can find the leak(s) in my Summer Waves 15'x33" pool liner. I see some of you ran pipes for the pump outside the pool and have them hanging over into the water for the intake and return, and some of you cut holes in the liner to run the hoses where they went in the original liner. For those who made the cuts did you have any trouble doing this? How did you line it up do the cuts? My worry about making the cuts properly is the main thing preventing me from ordering a new overlap liner.
If I can't find the hole and don't do this mod I guess I'll live with the leak which isn't too bad yet, topping off the water every other day and hoping by next summer I can find an original replacement or entire new pool - I'm sure everyone has noticed that these Intex and Summer Waves type pools are nearly impossible to find this year!

I filled with water to just below the holes, then cut them out using a scalpel blade.
I then attached my fittings, and prayed!
To my surprise, NO LEAKS!

One more question for those who have done this mod. Did you order the same size as your pool (15' liner for a 15' pool)? I'm wondering if there will be enough stretch to go over the poles and overlap the sides, since I think these poles are thicker than the usual overlap on a permanent above ground. Or maybe they aren't thicker?
