Hi everyone.....sorry for the newbie post, but we just purchased a house with a pool recently so this is a new ballgame for me. I would love a rundown of the steps I need to take when opening my pool this summer. The weather in NE Penn. has been crazy....90 one day, 65 the next. Hoping to get it open this weekend.

What are the steps I need to take after opening my pool....water test/chemical wise. I bought the TF-100 test kit, but couldnt really find directions as to what steps to take, in order, to test everything out....there is a lot going on in that test kit box haha.

I appreciate any feedback....thank you!

With your TF-100, post a full set of numbers for us. Pool School - Extended Test Kit Directions

You'll want to be prepared to focus on adjusting PH, FC, and CYA, followed by TA and CH as applicable. ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry
I also have some Vital Links below in my signature that you need to keep handy.

Please update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info so we know what you have. It can drive the replies you receive. Thanks.

Okay thank you....I will do that. Am I using the squirt tubes/test tubes that came with the test kit, or am I just using the contents in the box that looks like a first aid kit?

When you look at the instruction card or the link above, it should illustrate which products to use for each test. You will use the cylinder for the FC, CC, TA and CH tests. For the CYA test it has it's own little bottle and skinny viewing tube. The compactor viewing block will be used for the pH test where you add the 5 red drops and compare which (block) color it is. Hope that helps.

That definitely helps.....thanks a lot.....I'll get all of that information together.

What are the main essentials/chemicals I should have on hand when I open my pool this week?
Below in my signature is a link to Recommended Chemicals. That lists everything you should need, along with other valuable links. Don't forget to look at the ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry.

Lastly, at some point remember to update your signature as well. It will help later with questions.
