Mineral dirt and cartridge filter

I have a persistent and annoying problem with "sand" not getting filtered out in the catrtrige filter. The sand is probably just the insoluble part of dirt that ends up in the pool. It collects underneath the return jets and in the bottom of the pump basket.

Is there a trick to getting this out? I vacuum it one day, and the next day, it's back in the same spots. Is this just a downside of a cartridge filter?

I personally do not see that in our pool and we live in the desert with sand/dust in our pool alot. But it could be possible. Can you get a sample of the material and see if it is grit or slimy?

Could you put a location in your member profile? Helps us with understanding the climate conditions your pool lives in.

You could also post up a recent set of test results from your own test kit.

Take care.

I do not have a robot but those that have converted from regular vacuuming to robot report better cleaning. I would suspect you have some fines that you do not get vacuumed.

Be sure to put the location in your member profile.

Unless your filter has a hole in it there is no way sand will get thru the cartridge.

Do you have a concrete deck around your pool? The sand can be sticking to peoples feet and just get carried into the pool. Or being blown in from the wind.

It is normally for the sand to pile up in the same spots in the pool because of the eddy currents that are formed from the pump circulation. It is also normal to see sand in the pump basket because the basket is designed to catch things like bigger pieces of sand before it goes thru the pump.

Your filter cartridge should definitely capture the sand. In fact, sand typically clogs the cartridge and is a pain to clean out.

You should make sure your cartridge is fitting properly on the manifold and no dirt is bypassing. Do you see any other dirt bypassing your filter?

I dont see any visible dirt (other than the sand, which just "shows up". It is an old filter system (im guessing original to the pool - 1999 ish). Makes me think I just need to upgrade this last piece of equipment.

And yes. Concrete deck.
