You can try a t-shirt over the net to make a finer area. See how that works.
I wish your filter was on already to such up that dust. How do you like the regular brush? I wonder why you are not having good luck with whale tale? I have never used one but have heard good things about them

Thanks Kim. Will try the t shirt. I wish our equipment was running too, especially with the weather. It’s typical August weather in mind may [emoji31] Regular brush is ok. Would prefer deeper bristles. Can’t seem to find any though. Need another light weight pole. The one the pb gave me is so heavy. I have another that is much lighter but don’t want to keep changing heads between net and brush so will pick up a second. Guess I’ll get stronger and get the hang of it in time.

I know what you mean about the pole! They give you the longest one, haha. Sounds like you're brushing multiple times per day but we were told once or twice will get it done (first week only, then twice weekly for 3 weeks). From what I've read here, only the first week matters. Just another perspective. Bonding with the pool is good for the arms and core

Omg! Just finished the second brushing for the day. I’m pretty fit, but by the end I’m shattered. Turns out my lightweight pole doesn’t fit the pb brush or net even adjusting the wishbone thingy. Fits my wall whale though [emoji31] The regular brush head isn’t too bad but I feel like there’s not enough depth to the brush and it doesn’t curve around the edges well enough. Going to do some more research on brushes. Email says brush four times a day which I know is ridiculous. Pb says they really mean twice a day but say four in the hope that people might brush once or twice. Will do one more later tonight. Just trying to keep it stirred up a little until the filter gets turned on. Ironic thing is that when we get these wild winds they come from the opposite direction to usual. We did take this into account when placing the skimmer but went with the most prevailing wind direction. Right now everything is collecting down the other end. T shirt worked fairly well for the pollen. Will do it again later too. So tired after sitting in the windy sun at soccer. I kindly had recommendations from a few people there as to which pool service I should use. I don’t even bother anymore, just say thank you that’s great to know.

Then I tell them I have a deal with my wife where I agreed to get a pool on the condition that I got to maintain it (true story!) and they think I'm even crazier!

[emoji23] I’ve been hearing it for months too. Even my hubby is dubious. Not sure why people think that a casual, teenage staff member, throwing a sample into an uncalibrated machine once a week will provide better care?! I give up explaining that I will care for it myself though I will have great pleasure in telling them when they ask which company I use to look after my pool down the track!
EXACTLY! Easy for me to say though having never maintained one though, but I'm confident based upon what I've read here.

I know! I’ve been nervous about the chemistry since the day we signed. We can do this though. Just a matter of reading, asking and being methodical and patient... I hope!

I think I have been lucky with leaves. We suffer from southerly winds especially in winter. However there are no trees close by in the southern direction.
Most of the large neighbouring gum trees are off to my west so when the wind changes to that direction I'll cop it - I usually get bark as well as leaves in my backyard on a bad day.
It doesn’t look so nice anymore. So murky after brushing three times today. Can’t see anything below the surface which makes brushing even more of a challenge. Really can’t wait for the equipment to go on.
You’re lucky with the neighbouring trees. Usually we are fine, given we’ve cut back or removed every tree that posed any sort of leaf threat! I think during the entire build I’ve only seen 5 leaves in the pool. Of course the day we fill there are heaps! They are all out for now that I can tell and wind has just died down. Hard enough work brushing without having to spent equal time scooping or whatever the official name is.

Reminds me of my pool when it was first filled with filtered water then standard tap water... It look great for a few hours until the tap water went in.
I still have sand and concrete sediment to contend with - although that is pretty much just sitting on the floor. Can't wait for my coping to be completed (ETA still unknown at this stage) then the pool can be thoroughly vacuumed & cleaned by the PB.
At least fibreglass pools are very forgiving. It won’t hurt at all to sit like that until coping is done. Are your pavers in stock yet or is that what you’re waiting on?

I need to check whether they are in - probably give them a call on Monday. PB is meant to be across the granite, so when it lobs in that should trigger them into action.
Alas, will then need to wait on PB's contractor availability I guess...:clown:
Well fingers crossed they’re in or not far off and your pbs contractor can get them in soon. The good thing about this time of year is that even though you’re itching to get it done there’s not the same sense of urgency that there would be in summer.

True! My 6 year old was helping me today pull leaves out of the pool when he said he was going inside... back he came 5 mins later with his beanie, jumper and swim shorts [emoji23] There was a leaf he couldn’t get to on the bench apparently without getting in.

One tip from a rogue newbie TFPer that started out among pool expert friends and family: Don't say much at all. And let the water speak for itself after a year goes by.
Any time I explained TFPC the skepticism just increased. After a year of swimming, I "earned" two other family pools to care for because our water was noticeably clearer and nicer to swim in. Explaining TFPC got easier with the suspicion I had become a pool whisperer, haha.
Or you can always let a spouse or pool service do it for a year or two. Then you get to be the hero that fixes it with TFPC

Yes, have already learned to say not much at all. I did tell a friend and relative (who have pools) early on that I hoped to take care of the water myself and they were amused that I would want to when a pool store could test my water for free. One of them has their water tested on a monthly basis. Apparently that’s all you need to do and just put in whatever they tell you to. It’s so easy [emoji40]
