Small Pool Build - Brisbane, Australia [emoji1037]

Get those leaves out!! Use care but get them out. You do not want them to settle on that new plaster.

No idea about settings for the whale wall..............did not know it had settings..........hummmmmmmmm will have to do so poking around.

Gurrrrrrrrr on them not being as "nice" as they could have been. Rubbed wrong way for sure from the sounds of it. It IS a good thing you took away the metal ends!

Personally, I used up my 4in1 because test supplies are expensive here. The FC test is only adequate for 0 FC, around 1-2 ppm FC, or around 5 or more FC, but you run out of the little pills fast anyway. Make sure your boy knows not to touch the DPD pills; just press them out of the blister pack so they drop in the sample. A wet DPD pill can permanently stain many surfaces (linoleum/vinyl floor is worst I've seen).

pH is accurate and the kit includes an acid demand test and a table which works for acid additions.

TA is accurate. Final drops are mild sulfuric acid.

Feelin like a grinch here, which is not meant at all. I involve grandies 3 and up until they lose interest. They especially like matching the pH colour (sometimes 2 or 3 reaching consensus!) before and after the acid demand test. The CCL kit doesn't have acid demand, which is fine, but it can be handy when tweaking/timing acid additions.

Thanks Jett! It’s good to know the tests are actually quite good overall. Good to know about the DPD tablets too. My 11 year old is a chemistry nut so I’m not sure how quickly he will lose interest. He asked for gallium and a periodic table for his last birthday. Also loves rocks and minerals etc. I was chatting to him the other day about how they can’t wee in the pool and he explained to me about cc but he had an official name for the gas or element or whatever it is. My 6 year old on the other hand will be interested for maybe two days lol.

Should I wait until it’s full? I don’t want to risk dripping water all over the exposed pebble. Not even sure how I’ll get the ones off the bottom as my equipment won’t be turned on until Monday. Hopefully I’ll be able to stir the water enough to be able to catch them. I guess this is where my fish tank skills will come in handy... it will be just like try to scoop out a dead fish that keeps floating away!

Great... If I was him I'd be wondering on how to get my hands on some Sodium (the metal) to throw into the pool and watch the sparks fly...:D I always loved that experiment at school.

With the leaves - I have been picking them out of my pool every day as I know that they can leave stains behind due to their tannins (I mainly get a few Eucalyptus leaves in mine).

Only had a small amount in mine so far, so I have just been using my long handled brush to pick them up one by one.

I create some flow to kick up the leaf with the broom/brush and then try and catch the leaf on the top edge of the brush so as I raise it to the surface in one smooth action, the leaf is held against the brush due to the water flow.

Oh that video [emoji15] He’d love that! Would it damage the pool?

My leaves are quite small. Most are floating and should be easier to scoop out with the net. Will try to agitate the others to get to them, hopefully without causing them to smush against the pebble. The winds were insane today so I think this will be as bad as they get. Might be trimming our neighbours overhanging trees through.

I am so done. Alarm set for 2am and 4am. Will adjust as needed. Right now it’s about 50cm below the waterline tile.

Probably not but it will leave some chemical residue in the pool water.

Yeah, figured!

So, I got up at 1:15am 2:30am 3:30am 4:10am 5:30am and finally 6:15am. It seemed to be filling up quickly, which I think was due to the bench on the lower part, so I got a bit concerned. Top section took much longer to fill. The outdoor tap backs onto my bedroom wall so it was loud, plus I was having dreams about pool sized fish tanks exploding [emoji15]

On my final wake up, which happens to be the time I usually get up, I see this!

Waiting just a little longer to turn it off, but just about there!! Love it so much!!

SWEET! What a lovely color of blue you have going on there!!! LOL on it being at your tape AT THE TIME you USUALLY wake up  too funny!

I know right [emoji849] I couldn’t believe it. Well worth it though. Now to defrost the hands with a coffee and scoop out as many leaves as I can, then give it its maiden brush before taking my oldest son to soccer and trying to look human [emoji31] Then another brush and maybe a lie down... before more brushing!

Just calculated final numbers, remembering I only have a rough start time for the fill. They’re pretty spot on.

Estimated around 27,000 litres and final figures were 25,211 litres (6,660 gallons). The estimate didn’t include the bench, so I would say my final figure is fairly spot on give or take about 600 litres (to allow half an hour either side of when I think the fill started).

Scooped out as many leaves as I could. The pollen is terrible and seems to slip through the net. Might try and find a finer net today. First brush done. Not much dust, mainly off the bench and steps. Can’t wait to get the filter up and running on Monday. Not a fan of the wall whale at all. Followed instructions and watched videos. It does stick a little better on the way down but on the way up it floats off towards the centre of the pool and is hard to control back to the side. As for the bottom of the pool, it was near useless. I am so exhausted. Only 3 more brushing today [emoji31] Hopefully this wind dies down so I stop accumulating leaves and pollen.

You can try a t-shirt over the net to make a finer area. See how that works.

I wish your filter was on already to such up that dust. How do you like the regular brush? I wonder why you are not having good luck with whale tale? I have never used one but have heard good things about them :(

One of the pools I do has one of those and I replaced it with a normal brush as well.

Yeh, wow, I sure do wish you could start your pump to skim the leaves and pollen for you!

Pool looks a treat! :)
