Odd....I just ordered a saw. Apparently your logic did the trick.

That may have only been part of it though. I started cutting the beams today and they just weren't turning out as they should. I wasted most of today on cuts that I'm going to have to redo:brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:

On a positive note, the fireplace foundation passed inspection and it's formed up and ready for concrete.

The lath also started today and should have been done but I caught a few corners being cut. They'll be back tomorrow to fix those things.
 
B, what is wrong with those cuts? To my untrained eye they look like the shape and such that you shared of what the owners wanted done.

lath-have those guys not worked for you before? You would think after working with you on a job they would know shortcuts and poor work does not fly with you! Did you have to growl at them or did they say they would be glad to redo the work with just a request?

SO glad the fireplace passed. Did he say anything about the change you made in the hearth area?

I hope they do a pig roast for all when their backyard is done! What fun that would be for all!

A handful of them turned out as they should but the majority did not. I could probably get them to work but it would likely take an entire day with a belt sander to produce a mediocre end result at best.

I'm thinking that I can probably sell the saw for half of what I paid and still be money ahead compared to having the lumber yard make the cuts. They had a 3-4 week processing time anyway....

Who knows, maybe I'll like it so much that I'll keep it and cut custom corbels to order :scratch: ? More than likely not though...
 
Hey Brian. Nice job man. What is the opening of that firebox? Mine is going to be 4x4. On the ground though not raised. Wood holders on the side are set back a bit and raised. Wondering if I should raise firebox also. I have 15’ of width to play with and 9 foot ceilings. I figured but it on the floor cause it’s 4 high the opening. Mine is all masonary so we are just using fire brick and whatever we have laying around for doing the chimney which will be bricked then.

The opening is 50X40 so not far off from yours. Lets see what you got...I'm thinking its going to look odd on the ground

I'm using my usual stucco guy but I'm unfamiliar with the workers that showed up. There was more than a little growling...

I don't think he really understood what he was looking at and the plans are one step above horrible. He had a lot of questions so I guess I answered them correctly. Glad to be moving on from that.

brian in my thread there is a really really rough sketch! We don’t make nice pretty pics we just pull it from my head and then try to get it to look like what I’m thinking. Today when I got home I measured my indoor fireplace. It’s gas. That is very very close to 4x4 and sits raised like a typical fireplace and I still have enough room to the ceil g for the mantal and it doesn’t look squished. I’m actually thinking maybe going 5x5. I want that gothic game of thrones kinda look. You know what I mean? Like u can walk into it and still almost stand.

Im on my phone. I’ll see if I can grab the post number for the pic.

No no problem on the av help! I assume for this job here?
 
Post 712. Firebox on the floor with wood catches on the side set back a bit. They r raised off the ground with a bench (lower mantal) limestone cap. Then the fire boxes also have limestone caps so they can be used to place whatever on the chimney climbs to the ceiling and the back wall is also all brick with insets to break up everything. Upper mantal will be brick and limestone. My pics are rough but you should get the idea.

If if I raise the firebox to the height of the wood catches then I would just keep limestone lower mantal one depth but still set the wood catches back a bit to break up everything.

all these inspections! I had a whopping 2 for my pool. Didn’t even mention what’s with all that concrete slabs over there when he came into the yard.

What pool house. Nothing to see here. Move along.

no i'm too lazy. when we do a dedicated room design which will be acoustically treated or soundproof i do it all on graph paper so all my lines and layout is on target (cause it has to be. lol) ut then it goes to our acoustic company and they do my full drawings. see what i'm doing here. it's part of the package we get from them for acoustics. it includes revisions to all my audio and video placement so they r the double check and final drawings for a job. when it is a simpler room without cad designed walls/ ceiling and acoustics i can hand draw and when the installers get in the field i tweak it.

i tried sketch years ago, but i can draw quicker and get my point across to the installers and builders quicker. we only use my buddy for all woodwork so he knows my go to layouts. i try not to mix it up much cause what works works. why change it. that's if it's new construction cause we pretty much tel the builder we need this this and this for my layout. if it's a remodel then ya you have to work with what you got, but then i can line draw and talk to our main speaker company for assistance and then usually if i still need help the speaker company will jump in with simple acoustic help to make everything work.

when i built my house we did all my baths and kitchen with just my junk drawings. same wit the bar we just in my basement. dave is just such a good cabinet guy he knows exactly what i want. my wife never got to experience the pretty pictures. lol i think we looked at my home blueprints like once. to form the foundation then my dad's buddies said ya throw those out. lol

click on my flickr link you will see my dedicated room i'm working on and some other stuff we did in the last 2 years in my home to finish off my basement. my buddy's first soundproof custom door is also played out in the pics. we got sick of paying 3 grand for a shell door that still needed another 2 grand of custom mill work done to it to make it fit into the room decor and accept acoustic panels so i decided to build my own with his guys at the shop. it's hung and sealed and without the finished layer of 2 inch acoustic panels and 3/4 inch cherry i already am blocking 34 db wit the room sealed. i'll pick up at least another 10 or so once the room is dressed.

I'd love to experience your equipment in person. The only problem with that is I know I'd be hooked and I don't need something else to obsess over. I know for certain I'd rip everything out of my house and redo it.

My wife and I are trying to decide if we are going to stay in our house or not. If we do move it will more than likely be a custom house that I'll build. If that ends up being the case I'll fly you out to be an on-site consultant :cheers: since I'm just about clueless as to how the cool guys setup their AV packages.

Plenty of wide-open space here in AZ :sun: Lots of good people, low taxes and you can even bring your flame-thrower too. You can teach at the fire academy here and the best part - who cares if stuff burns down, it’s the desert and no one will notice the difference anyway....

More forms in and poured the last of the colored concrete.

That BBQ island has me jealous....I just need to remember to bring my jackhammer home to blow my island up.

The ceiling is all closed up too...awaiting an inspector to verify the screw placement :roll:
