Do pool vacuums wear out?

Hello,

We have a in ground pool that came with our house... Since we bought the place, two years ago, we have had a kreepycraly pool vac. It's always worked great, it would crawl all the way up the side of the pool and lose suction and drop and keep going. But i started to notice at the end of last summer that it was going slower and slower, and spending more time stuck. Now the thing won't go anywhere other than getting stuck on the drain. My pressure gauge reads the same ~22 it always has. I have the pool valves set to full power to suction at creepycrawly. And no change.

Do those things wear out? It looks like there is nothing to it, and nothing is stuck in it. The hose to the head has good suction. Anything I am missing?

Thanks,

Chris

Nice to meet you via TFP :)

Is it the thumping type? Is it still thumping but not moving?

If still thumping, maybe the filter is getting dirty or the skimmer basket or pump strainer basket is full of junk.

If not thumping, maybe it needs a new diphragm. They wear out and need periodic replacement.

Thanks for the reply. It's the same as the one below. I've cleaned out the strainer, back flushed the filter a number of times, so don't think it's that. Also normally when the strainers or filter get clogged, i see a drop in pressure, and i am not seeing that.

I don't notice the vacuum oscillating like it used to. I didn't realize that there was a cam and gears in there until i looked at the drawing above. I am going to take it apart this weekend. Guessing maybe it's bound up somewhere.

Thanks!

Chris
