Hayward/Jandy Pool Filter Bulkhead leaking!!!

So my first question is does anyone know the brand or part number for this filter? I believe it is Jandy but it could be Hayward.

Now for my problem there is a leak at the inlet bulkhead union and I just replace all the o-rings with new ones. Air is being sucked into the system and I cant seam to stop the leak. There is no crack in the piping so I cant understand why it is leaking. The o-ring has to be replaced from the inside so it sucks to replace. I don't believe I over tightened it. Is there any type of sealant that I can put around the inlet to ensure it does not leak? I know I need to use a teflon type sealant and I can't use a Vaseline type sealant. This summer I will replace the filter housing with a new system but I don't want to damage my pool equipment so I would like to fix it asap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Here are some pictures of the leak and my equipment.

c,

Welcome to TFP... a great place to find the answers to all your pool equipment questions... :shark:

If you just replaced the O-Ring, then I would think that you did not clean up the mating surfaces or that you did not tighten the connection well enough.

The only way to fix it is to take it apart.. You cannot really add anything to the outside that will do a good job of sealing it. Since you plan to replace it anyway, you could try some silicone caulk and let it dry 24 hours before turning the pump back on..

Since this is on the pressure side of the pump, it is not the cause of air getting into your pump.. It might however cause the pump to drain back into the pool when the pump is off.

We have some pretty sharp plumbing guys that should be along soon that might be able to identify the specific filter..

Thanks,

Jim R.

You know, it may be a Jandy filter. Some of theirs have those black handles on top. Regardless, I would agree with Jim's notes about the air getting in the system and future repairs. However, as a fellow Northtown guy who grew-up on those very streets back in the 70's-80's (Hickey Ave) and graduated from Ranhco (the old Rancho), let me also say "Welcome to TFP"! Small world.

Thank you both for your quick response. I will take it apart and look at it again. To be honest I had a pool guy do it so I will call him back, but before I do I will double check to make sure there are no leaks in the piping. I thought it was a Jandy too? So thanks for confirming that for me, I really believe that there was going to be more response on this topic but 2 is better than none.
