What does everyone experience with water loss!!! Including Splash Out and Evaporation!!!

I seem to be losing about a 1/4" to no more than 1/2" of water every 3 or 4 days... I don't think I have a leak cause I've walked the pool several times before burying when I was experiencing the same loss and I've checked skimmer, return and all plumbing plus pump and filter and have no leaks... Now I do live in south Texas where we have temps of 90's + on a regular basis with heat indexes of 105 to 120 and my pool gets full sun from 9:00am to around 6:00pm... I don't use any covers or have a heater or anything... So my Curiosity Question is what does everyone else experience with water loss in their pools!!! My Kids play in it everyday...

I have an evaporation loss of about 1 inch per day. That equates to about 100 gallons per day in the summer.

Depends on temperature, humidity, etc.

mknauss, Well I don't feel so bad now!!! Your water loss is a lot more than mine!!! Sorry to hear that I bet your city either loves you or hates you... lol... But yeah we have a very high humidity rate down here and it gets very hot!

My average daily loss in June and July is similar to mknauss: about 1". (On my pool that is close to 150 gallons.) By the time the monsoon arrives (late July) and the humidity rises out of single digits, my evaporation rate drops to less than ½" per day.
:)

The amazing thing is, living in the desert, our water is really cheap! I live about 1/4 mile from the Colorado River.

Agreed! I figured out it was cheaper to drain my spa (400 gallons) than buy the chemicals to keep it clear–just kidding! It costs about $1 for 100 gallons in Tucson.
Yikes - that is expensive. We pay $2.70 per 1000 gallons.

Oops! I made a bad calculation. Our water and sewer bills are combined on one statement so my estimate was way off. We actually pay about $2.75 per 1000 gallons (up to 10,000 per month then it jumps to $4.60 per 1000! ). I should know better than to do "Math in public"!
:hammer:

Thank you both. This has been my first real season with a AGP 22x52 Intex in Arizona and Its been bugging me ALL summer about the amount of water loss I experience weekly. I lose about 2 to 3 blue blocks and find myself caping off the pool weekly for about 30 minutes of refilling. I was troubled that I had a hole I couldn't find but no water or soft ground is ever around my pool. I have been undecided if I should take my pool down at the end of the season rather then leave it up because of the water loss.

Cooler weather should lead to less evaporation, as will covering the pool when it is not in use. Covering will also reduce chlorine loss from UV (sun) rays.
