Cloudy deep end poor circulation

Well, it is OK for them to be there to help maintain your FC at SLAM level. But, what you lose is knowing how much FC you're burning through to get an idea of how the SLAM is going.

With a combination of brushing the entire pool and adding cellulose fiber and having a skimmer sock inserted, I woke up this morning to discover the return jet hardly pushing out anything. The skimmer sock was so full of debris, as soon as I picked up the basket the return jet started flowing. I replaced it with a new sock and dropped it back in. Does this mean progress? Or did something go wrong. The debris was very tiny particles that the sock was catching

That's excellent news!

The sock is filtering for you which allows the real filter to go longer between cleanings. And you have to admit, that sock is a heckuva lot easier to clean than the filter.

Thank you good to hear. While reading pool school and slam instructions I don't think I ran across any specifics on cleaning sand filter. I know to backwash and rinse but that's all I know. Is backwashing to often not good? I've been doing it every day since starting slam. Backwash for 3 mins and rince for 1.

A slightly dirty sand filter works better than a freshly cleaned one. You should note the clean pressure after the next backwash and then wait for it to go up 25% before backwashing again.

Thanks guys lots of help so far. So if anyone is familiar with the beginning of the post I said I have bad circulation and dump my vacuum in the deep to act as skimmer while its plugged into my only skimmer. So I did this for the first time since starting the SLAM process and using skimmer socks. Please note I never read anywhere to do this but seeing my situation is not normal I put a skimmer sock in the pump basket. Also note the other times ive done this with the vacuum I have not used socks or during slam process and everything was fine. Anyways I drop the vacuum in the deep end and check on it in 2 hours and noticed it wasnt running. Checked the pump basket to find the skimmer sock filled with what looks like a cauliflower dinner. Im just super curious if this is normal. Please see attachment (nasty stuff)pool Crud.jpg

Update. I started slam on Sunday so it has been 4 full days of slamming. Went from not seeing the main drain to a cloudy version of seeing the main drain. Problem is this is fresh water delivery from second week of June not an opening. Ive seen great before and afters on this forum from green to clean in 5 days. Take a look at this picture I see this sand like algae idk if its mustard algae but its in the same streak everyday but its also all over the pool in little spots. Could this be Sand could my Sand Filter be the issue this whole time. pool.jpg

If those stripes can be brushed into a neat pile, it's sand.

If they go *poof* when you get near them with the pool brush, it's dead algae.

Rubber band a sock around each pool return. If the sock ends up full of sand you'll have absolute proof that there's something wrong with the filter. Nothing bigger than about 20 microns should be returning to the pool.

Haha thanks Richard the poof example is exactly what it is I'm just shocked how much algae this took on right away I'm going to try the sock trick just in case. In the mean time still enjoying the pool the other half is very clear.

The pool has cleared up a lot still dead algae settling every day. My TA is 170 ph 7.8 after this slam process. Is this too high? Does it need to come down to 90 it being a concrete pool with paint? The current FC is 2.5 if I want to add chlorine this makes it impossible to lower TA?

The water isn't clear -- you still have visible algae. You shock be at shock level still. Since your FC is low right now, go ahead and lower pH to 7.2 and then resume the SLAM. Don;t worry about the TA level.
